Greetings, everyone. It's been a year since I first shared the print version of "To the New Jewish Left," and the world hasn't gotten any easier. When I wrote it several months after the Biden-Harris election, I cautioned people against assuming that everything was going back to a neoliberal normal. Today that warning doesn't seem necessary.
I published "To the New Jewish Left" in New Voices, and I think it's my most important writing since The Past Didn't Go Anywhere. But it's long, and not all of us have time or ability to absorb text from a screen. So here's an audio version - click the MP3 link at the bottom of this post.
This is a letter about some of what has held us back from building a really powerful Jewish Left in recent decades, and some things I think we'll need to learn if we want to build a movement culture healthy enough to get through the years to come.
I hope this piece leaves you with a glimmer of hope and a little more energy for the fight.
Be well,
April
