Critics have demanded that the Tories withdraw aid money given to Tanzania after the country was accused of rigging a poll on the island of Zanzibar.
The election on the East African island was reportedly boycotted by the opposition, leading the ruling party to win 91 per cent of the vote.
The Conservatives wasted the cash on the country in order to reach a target of spending 0.7 per cent of national income on foreign aid, the tories have sent over £200 million pounds of taxpayer money to the nation in the last 12 months.
This is despite the USA removing its £331 million pound package weeks ago, and UK aid to the nation is UP by 25%, despite many human rights agencies in the region saying the money is directly funding a campaign by the ruling party.
The Tory party has made no comment, despite prominent criticism even from within its own ranks.
Former Tory defence secretary Dr Liam Fox slammed the waste of taxpayer’s money on allegedly corrupt regimes.
He said: “Western taxpayers expect their money to be used in an ethical way.
“When there are clear breaches of political rights or human rights they will expect a response in terms of the aid we contribute.
“The fact that the US has reacted in such a strong way gives a very good signal.
“We should be reviewing our own contribution in the light of that.”
It was also revealed that the budget for the Department for International Development (DFID) has soared by 32 per cent in one year to meet the 0.7 per cent target.
We wonder why the Tory party is intent on funding a corrupt government, even despite being warned, and its its biggest ally, the US pulling all aid back from the nation.
Is it simply to spend the required amount, the 0.7% of GDP on foreign aid ?, well, we think they have a lot to answer for, and for them to let the DFID to spray money around with no due diligence is shameful.
