I hope you have as much fun with this painting "Tortoise Terrarium," as I did. Thank you for making it happen!
I've been reading a lot about the climate emergency in recent news and philosophy and it has given me some insights on how to create paintings that are imaginative, but realistic in consideration of the future.
A concept in economics and future climate mitigation is called "degrowth" and it means learning to do less, consuming less, and as a result not expending as much CO2! As citizens of of the USA, all of us are among the highest consuming individuals in the world.
One idea from This Civilization is Finished is that we already have more than enough technology to mitigate climate changes. Our biggest assets could be cultural and societal change, not the ability to invent new technologies. While I do plan on inventing new imaginary tech in this climate art series, I hope push depictions of new cultural interactions more!
The Tech: The tortoise terrarium is meant slowly crawl harsh climate-changed lands and re-seed resilient and diverse seeds, in an effort to rehabilitate the life that once flourished. Solar plates protect the inner garden from extreme gusts, and provides just enough energy for movement.
