Treasure Island, By Robert Louis Stevenson, Ch 12
Chapter 12, Council of War Treasure Island has been sighted, but the crew of the Hispaniola has just discovered a plot for a ships mutiny. At all points in this story the humanity of the characters is palpable, and even more so in moments of great frustration. I think it is a testament to the talent of the author to think of a humor, when it seems as though all hope is lost, or the odds are stack against you. While there are no direct jokes, there is an underlying jest at points in this chapter from even the most serious characters, which not only break the tension, but allow the audience to feel as though they are a part of the drama as it unfolds.
