Trying out some new things

Happy March! I don't have any answers about everything I wrote about last week (and I've decided not to let that post become public at this point), but like I mentioned, I do have some news.

Arguably, the best kind of news for those of you who enjoy my stories.

I've started something new.

Of course it's not the book I should be writing (Forging Forever #3), or the thing I thought I would be writing next (the untitled Furies trilogy).

Because I am unsure what my publishing future may be, if any, and going the traditional route means retaining first publication rights, I can't post this draft the way I did for Summer Seduction. (Since this story isn't connected to a previously published series, I could potentially query agents/publishers with it.)

I also think not having the pressure of sharing regularly may actually help me finish writing. It's interesting because popular wisdom claims that announcing your intention to achieve something makes you more likely to do it. But research has shown that the reverse can be true. And it seems I may be one of those people who needs to keep things to herself until there's a fait accompli to share.

However, I'm going to try to strike a happy medium. One thing I'm going to start doing is including periodic status updates on my word count, at the top of my posts. I'll also be sharing the current (very, very rough) draft of the opening scene! And any other tidbits that arise through the writing if I think there's even a shred of a chance someone might find them interesting. (At some point I'll need to plan out the layout of a mansion. Whatever the results are, I'll share. At the very least, my scribbles should be good for a laugh at my poor art skills.)

First up, I guess I should tell you a little about the story itself. For one thing, it's a dragon shifter story. Though it'll be a standalone, it's set in the same universe as Mortal Musings, so elements of that mythology will appear. I don't know if it will end up being a novella or novel, since I'm just seeing where it goes!

While I don't yet have a pitch for it, the story centers on a dragon who ran to the mortal realm and has been hiding there for centuries—and the dragon sent to find her.
