Tutored Life Drawing Inspiration Week 01: Introduction

We are re-launching our 34-week tutored life drawing course, starting this week! If you've been putting off watching the tutorial videos, or are on the lower tiers and thinking about upgrading to the life drawing tier, now is the perfect time to do it. The videos and blogs that make up the course are intended to compliment any in-person life classes or online zoom sessions you go to, so you can watch the videos and read the blog posts here on the Patreon, then put the exercises into practice at your preferred sessions. We have made this first post and the Week 01 video, blog and photo-set free for everybody to access as an introduction to Draw. Here is a bit more information about what to expect...

What is the Tutored Life Drawing Course?

The Draw Tutored Life Drawing Course is an online series led by Lancelot Richardson. Suitable for all abilities, it is designed as a course of 34 week comprised of a weekly blog post to read and 1-hour video to watch. As the course is pre-recorded you can spread it out over a longer period, or dip in and out of the videos whenever you like. The full course is already available on the Patreon and can be explored using the Draw Navigator - lots of people are already working their way through it!

What's new?

Each Monday we'll be releasing inspirational blog posts to point you towards contemporary and historical drawings that relate to our weekly there and on Wednesdays we'll release demonstrations videos where Lance will explore the exercises described in his corresponding Tutored Life Drawing videos in more depth. So for each of our 34 course  weeks, we'll end up with the following resources for you to read, watch and revisit:

  • Tutored Life Drawing Blog - already released (available to All Tiers)
  • Tutored Life Drawing Video - already released (available to Life /Student Tiers)
  • Inspiration Blog - Released 10am each Monday (available to All Tiers)
  • Demo Videos - Released 10am each Wednesday (available to Life /Student Tiers)
  • Practice Photos-sets - Released 11am each Wednesday (available to Life /Student Tiers)

How should the course be used?

Watching a video or reading a blog won't improve your drawing if you don't put what you learn into practice. If you are following the course week-to-week we recommend reading the Inspirations posts and Tutored Life Drawing Blogs at the beginning of the week as a primer, watching the original Tutored Life Drawing Video mid-week, then putting the exercises into practice at online or in-person life classes. Later in the week, you can then use the new Demo Videos to see how Lance approaches those exercises in more detail, drawing along with him using the reference photos. If that all sounds a bit much, spread it out over a fortnight, or even a month - all of this is recorded so you can work at your own pace or start at the beginning at any time.

Who is it for?

The course is for everybody, from complete beginners who are starting from scratch to more experienced artists wanting to build on their existing skills. We also welcome other teachers watching the course and adapting their own lesson plans from it - tell us how you get on!

How much does it cost?

Access to the full course of video demonstrations and photo packs is included in the Patreon Life Drawing Tier (£25+VAT per month) - students and those on low income can access it on via the cheaper Student Tier (£8+VAT per month). All other supporters will have access to the weekly inspiration posts and accompanying blog posts. You can upgrade or downgrade at any time; if you have trouble doing that you can always email me on [email protected].

If this post is public, can I share it?

Yes! If you think anybody would enjoy the tutorials, blogs, videos, or photosets here on the Patreon. We aim for everything on the Patreon to be affordable and good value, we use all of the money raised to support the models and tutors who make the resources and to subsidise the running of our community space in Brighton. By sharing the Patreon you're helping other people to find us and helping them to become part of and support our community, so the more sharing that happens the better!

Thanks everybody! Enjoy the drawing,

Jake
