So my output has been a bit, ah, sporadic recently. While that started with me stepping back to rethink Kani’s story, the last few weeks of increasing panic over global pandemic has certainly not helped my concentration levels.
I began the shift to this sort of looser “post when you can” model rather than scheduled weekly postings saying it was an experiment, and it still is. I’m not sure it’s a successful experiment, but I’m willing to keep at it if you are. But I’m probably going to focus for the time being on more standalone short bits.
Does this mean that there’s likely to be more Grumpy Bunny stories? Yes, almost certainly. While I’m doing my best to keep that loose and more “discovery writing” rather than fully planned out, I’ve been noodling around with a mind map connecting up what’s been said so far, what’s been implied, and things that might draw them together. So, like the Mouse Vignettes, this feels like a longer story told through focused (and hopefully fun) short episodes.
(I may also come up with a better name than “Grumpy Bunny,” because I’m not entirely sure that it’s accurate. Moira herself would probably not approve. But I’m sticking with it as the informal title until something more appropriate really comes along.)
I haven’t yet figured out how my now mandatory work-from-home schedule will affect my writing. It cuts out my commute and makes it easier for me to sneak in “non-work” during work hours, but lately I’ve gotten a lot of creative writing done at cafés and breweries—both of which are now shut down indefinitely. I have to get back in the habit of treating my house as a cafe and pub, I guess!
As always, thanks for sticking with me.
