Welcome to the first suggested book list for voting for The Illustrated Book Club. I'm calling this 'Chapter 2' of The Illustrated Book Club, because technically Oliver Twist is 'Chapter 1' (even though there was no voting to be done for that). So, this is actually the first vote, but will be the second book. There, that's nice and clear.
As I hope I've explained on the main page, all patrons of $2 or more per update are eligible to vote, but only patrons of $5 can make suggestions (subject to approval). For each 'chapter' I'll suggest a range of works, and then add suggestions as they come in - which must be in the public domain (if in doubt, ask me), but can be novels, short stories or non-fiction. I reserve the right to veto things I think are inappropriate or simply wouldn't work (e.g. Kant's Critique of Pure Reason - no, really, trust me, it wouldn't).
Please get in contact to suggest, or if you have any questions. Come early January, I'll close the list and I'll message everyone to vote.
(Votes will appear in brackets as they appear. Each title is linked to a list of free e-texts of the book.)
1. Frankenstein, Mary Shelley [1 vote]
2. Wuthering Heights, Emily Bronte
3. A Study in Scarlet, Arthur Conan Doyle
4. The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde
5. The Memoirs of Jacques Casanova de Seingalt, Casanova
6. Gulliver's Travels, Jonathan Swift
7. The Prince, Niccolò Machiavelli
And there you go.
All the best,
[EDIT: This is now a free, public post - it didn't make sense to keep it private, though discussions, etc will remain so. I've also increased the number of suggestions - 3 seemed a bit stingy.]
