For our Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy read-along, we decided to create a cocktail for drinking along with the stories rather than a baked good at the end of the book. Naturally, this cocktail is inspired by Simon's Shadowhunter-ness (as opposed to his vampire cocktail)!
While Simon has a long period of amnesia when it comes to being a vampire, he now has an aversion to sangria, Bloody Marys, and other things that, subsconsiously, remind him of that time in his life (he also hates rats more than your average New Yorker). At one point, Clary suggests he come up with a new and improved cocktail to reflect his new station in life and offered to help. Together they came up with this deliciously orange cocktail and Jace, being Jace, added a dash of grenadine to "remind him of his past life since that can be difficult for him sometimes." Simon begrudgingly admitted it was a good addition to the cocktail.
To make a Walking on Sunshine: In a lowball glass over ice, add 1.5 oz. orange vodka, 1 oz. orange liqueur, and 2-3 oz. club soda and stir. Add a dash of grenadine and enjoy!
To make a non-alcoholic version: substitute orange juice for the vodka and orange liqueur.
