Pages 12-13 of WELCOME TO THE ZONE, my graphic novel from 1995. This is a new version, rescanned from the original art and reformatted into  Indesign layouts, with new balloons and lettering. My plan is to put  the whole thing up online.

Having all the cops in the story look like Jack Webb was not one of my more inspired ideas, (DRAGNET was a show about LA, not NYC cops, and my Joe Fridayish dialogue was pretty subpar) but redoing the art digitally has at least given me a chance to improve on the likenesses. Back in 1994 I had to rely on whatever photo reference I could gather from the NY Public Library picture collection, or from old magazines, but Google Image Search has a far better selection of Jack Webb photos, which I can display right next to my Photoshop window (no, I didn't do any direct tracing).  

And yes, in the East Village we really did use "wheatpaste" as a verb.
