Where to Start with Birdverse?
Dear Patrons -

Thanks to all of you, we reached our stretch goal of "Where to Start with Birdverse?" - an essay! But I thought an infographic would be more fun instead. I hope you enjoy it :)

The infographic offers for options, which are different possible gateways into the world. Each of these pieces is a good starting point, in its own way.  These are the options:

"The Desert Glassmaker and the Jeweler of Berevyar" - short and beautiful and nothing hurts (Uncanny Magazine)  - this is an epistolary story which is essentially a romance. Main characters are pansexual; their genders are not explicitly stated.

"Grandmother-nai-Leylit's Cloth of Winds" - big Birdverse sensawunda, queer families and trans and autistic people, and also carpets (Nebula nominee; Beneath Ceaseless Skies) - I think most people found their way to Birdverse through this story.

"Geometries of Belonging" - a slower, caring story that will linger for a long time, and also autistic, mentally ill, queer, and trans protagonists. This story is explicitly anti-cure. (Beneath Ceaseless Skies). I recommend "Geometries..." to people who especially care about mental illness and autism rep.

"Ranra's Unbalancing" - a an angry, cussy poem about quince and a volcano. (Strange Horizons)

Hope you enjoy!
