I realized there was a different and more simple joke to be had. So I eliminated Rick Grimes from the strip. I might finish drawing him later for use as an avatar. I kinda liked the way he was turning out. Patreon patrons can click here to see the original version I was gonna post...
Then yesterday morning I woke up with an even SIMPLER idea and whipped out the art to make it happen. The monster is as afraid of Jack as Jack is of the monster.
So this strip has actually been 3 different ideas. That scares me a lot. It means I'm struggling too much. The best ideas are the simple ones that don't change much as I'm creating them. If I re-write too much, it means I didn't have a very good idea to begin with.
Speaking of comic strip ideas that were simple and didn't get re-written... Tuesday's comic "Little Finger" seems to have been a hit! On the "Game of Thrones" and "Funny" subreddits it got 100 upvotes each. Although it got basically zero on "Comics" and "Webcomics". Since it also drew my all-time highest visitor count on the Skitter web site and got a number of positive comments and retweets from people on social media I don't usually hear from, I'm gonna say it was a success.
The simpler ideas are the best.
