I recently finished Dark Souls 2 and the concept of the endgame location named "Throne of Want" left me thinking about incorporating a similar concept in a map. Sure, the scope here is smaller than it is in the video game. Plus, I can't account for people's campaigns coming to an end with a few paragraphs of background lore. So here we have an interesting experiment. This is supposed to be an end of campaign quest, at level 13. You know I keep the short adventures smaller in scope because most people are playing in the first two tiers of play (in Dungeons and Dragons, at least).
In this end of campaign, a wizard has absorbed the powers in an ancient artifact known as the Throne of Want. The spirit of an ancient mage int he throne has taken over and has resolved to continue its agenda from eons ago. Only by destroying the physical body it has claimed can the adventurers save the kingdom from destruction. The throne is not easy to access, it is protected by terrible guardians and deadlier traps. The traps, in particular, are a terrible danger in this location.
