Who Put Bella in the Witch Elm?
On April 18, 1943, the skeleton of a young women was discovered inside in a wych elm tree. She had been murdered and placed in the tree nearly two years before. She was never identified and her remains have since gone missing along with the autopsy report. In 1944, graffiti appeared in the nearby town of Birmingham reading, "Who put Bella down the wych elm?"

This is my first completely digital painting. It was recently featured in Art of Darkness: Inspired by the Paranormal at the Banfill-Locke Center for the arts.
