I don't know if you have listened to episode 87 yet, but I did a crazy thing that's making my heart race just thinking about it...
A few weeks ago I set a target of reaching 100 patrons in time for my 100th episode. I am glad to say I reached that easily. So I was thinking - I need to set another goal. I thought about 150 patrons, but it didn't feel ambitious enough. So I am aiming for 200 patrons in time for my 100th episode!
If you're wondering why this is important: let me explain. I have been making a weekly podcast now for two years. Each episode takes me at least a day of my working week to make, often longer. Until very recently I have been making On The Ledge without any help whatsoever. I have had to buy equipment, pay for hosting, turn down writing jobs, and work evenings and weekends to get it done.
Don't get me wrong, I am not moaning - I LOVE making On The Ledge. But to continue making the podcast in the long term without burning out, I need to make it financially sustainable.
'Yes, but you're hosting ads now, surely that's making money?' you may be thinking. I've run ten ads in 87 episodes, and while steadily building, they aren't a reliable source of monthly income, and the money they do make isn't huge.
So that's where you come in. If every listener (or even every other listener) pledged $1 a month, I could drop everything else I do and spend my whole working week doing all the things you'd love me add - putting out plant guides on my blog, offering transcripts of each episode, putting out a listeners' yearbook, organising more live events...
So. If you love the show and feel you can help, please do sign up as a patron: you can do that here. $1 will get you a warm fuzzy feeling: $5 will get you access to extra content in the form of at least two episode of my Patreon-only episodes. I am working on a $10 tier, so let me know what you'd like to see offered at that level.
Thanks for reading this far, and thanks for your support in whatever form it comes. If you like the idea of financially supporting On The Ledge on a regular basis, but don't know what Patreon's all about, check out the FAQ here to find out how.
If you're not up for giving a regular financial contribution, there are some other ways to help...
