Will Monster Trucks Crush at the Box Office?
by MovieKnight

Story: Looking for any way to get away from the life and town he was born into, Tripp (Lucas Till), a high school senior, builds a monster truck from bits and pieces of scrapped cars. After an accident at a nearby oil-drilling site displaces a strange and subterranean creature with a taste and a talent for speed.  Tripp may have just found the key to getting out of town and a most unlikely friend.

Likes : From the creator of Ice Age , Monster trucks will touch your heart & bring you to tears as well as laughter in the magical film. This is truly gonna be one of those “guilty pleasure” film  that is a across between ET  and Herbie that you will surely love.

I went into this film not knowing what to expect other than what was shown in the trailer , I was pleasantly surprised on just how good this film is.  The concept of this film is it not just one of those typical creatures movies from outer space, which is refreshing.

The concept of the film is so much different which gives its edge over most other film of this type & you really can't help but fall in love with this creature that the main character lovingly calls “Creech”. He (Creech) comes off as lovable / adorable with a great sense of humor often making the audience laugh.

Lucas Till is brilliant playing a character from a broken family with a great disdain for his step-father.  Together with Creech, Till  makes this movie a great adventure with a special chemistry that warms the heart of the audience who decides to view this film.

Jane Levy plays the young girl who has a crush on Till’s character, Tripp.  Playing the quirky girl like that of the Lindsay Lohan character from Herbie in a way, does a fabulous job in the role. Her character unwittingly gets involved in trying to get Creech home while trying to avoid the antagonists group which is hired to chapter the alien.

The visual effects on the creature is brilliantly done. The one thing that stops this film from being one of those boring movies is the touching relationship between Tripp and Creech. Those very moment give this film a family feel.

The stunt work with the car chase scenes are brilliantly choreographed. The “monster” trucks are beautifully done.  Special is the way the movie ends. The film concludes in such a beautiful way, a sequel could be done.

Dislikes : There is one moment in the film that is a little unrealistic.

Overall

  • Quirky great film for the family.
  • Heartwarming moments & a guilty pleasure film.

Rating: 5 out of 5 for entertainment /  8 out 10 for concept.
