Wisdom and Revelation: Study Notes

"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better (Ephesians 1:17)."  -- We see that Paul wanted the church members in Ephesus to have a desire for wisdom and revelation from God.

As believers, one of our essential desires should be wisdom and revelation from God. In prayer, we are able to ask God for these so that we can know the depth of his ways and also live more effectively.

There are many who read the Bible and only see ancient words, Shakespearian-like dialogue, and imaginative stories. Sadly, many of them miss the rich depth, parallels, prophetic insights, and spiritual connections that come through reading scripture. This is largely due to the fact that one is only allowed to grasp the complexity of scripture if: #1 They are filled with the Holy Spirit, and #2 They have asked God for Wisdom and Revelation! So what are these things?

Wisdom: The application of knowledge.

Yet, how can one apply knowledge that they don't have? That's where revelation comes in.

Revelation: Insight and knowledge that comes from God to you!

This is not knowledge from your own understanding. Rather, it comes from the Spirit of God in you and gives insight to your mind. This can be knowledge about prophetic events, his word, or even simply a word for you that God has concerning your life.  We are to pray and ask for revelation.

Receiving revelation is not some "spooky" angelic visitation. Rather, it can simply take the form of an idea that comes from God that surpasses your understanding and enlightens your mind about a matter. Therefore, beloved children of God, pray to our Father, for wisdom, but even more so, for revelation. In doing so, his word will open up and the depths of prophetic and spiritual truths within it will unfold. His Spirit will speak to your mind about personal matters so that you may advance in life with utmost effectiveness.

Remember brothers and sisters, just as our Father in Heaven so desires to grant revelation to you regarding his word, he also can grant revelation concerning your life! If he wants you to understand scripture, how much more does he desire for you to understand your purpose in life! God wants you to live effectively for him! For this reason, it is helpful to keep a journal/ notes, of what God reveals to you regarding scripture AND what he reveals to you regarding your work, your relationships, and your ministry. He wants to give you revelation (Godly counsel and insight) regarding every aspect of your life! Be prepared to receive it. God bless you in your journey, in Jesus’ name.

Your brother in Christ, Jerren
