About Punk Revolution Now!

WELCOME TO MY PUNKTREON

going to be honest with you here. right now, this patreon is pretty much only existing so people who want to donate to my channel, now are able to. if that's something you choose to do, trust me it is so very deeply appreciated. that money actually will help me make more/better content, which is epic.
however right now my channel is still relatively humble. i don't expect to make much money from my channel, it's freaking PUNK not PROFIT. so if you donate, that is epic. if you don't, well. that's cool too.
As my channel grows i will flesh my patreon out more with better rewards and content, etc, but for now, it serves only as an easy place ppl can donate.

Why a Punk Revolution Now

There is no denying we live in revolutionary times. Between the rapid advancement of powerful technologies, the ongoing impact of globalization, the decline of our long-trusted political institutions, reactionary ideologies taking grip across the planet, the global pandemic, the crisis of climate change, and the enduring economic recession, we live in a moment so intense it is nauseating, devastating, and frankly makes the end of human civilization as we know it feel like a tangible threat. There is no easy solution to all of this, but we aren’t necessarily doomed. There is a way out.

We need a Punk Revolution Now.

Revolution is not easy. But it has been done before! Successful ones that genuinely make the world a better place. We can do it again. We need to do it again for our survival.
SO WHAT DOES A PUNK REVOLUTION NOW ENTAIL?
I have no doubt in my mind that culture, crisis, and revolution are intrinsically linked. I am not the first person to acknowledge this. Understanding this connection is an important part of the equation to getting the hell out of this mess. In the case of Punk Revolution Now, the emphasis will be on music, although I hope the Punk Revolution will inspire shifts to take place on a much wider scale across all mediums.

Consider the following
Why is it that in the midst of a terrifying crisis, the main products of our cultural industries continue to be entirely irrelevant? Billboard’s Hot 100 Chart currently includes the following: Life is Good by Future and Drake (#4), Adore You by Harry Styles (#7), The Box by Roddy Rich (#1), etc. In short, not a single charting song mentions the ongoing crisis once.
This is a tragedy beyond words-- at best it reflects the utter failure of our cultural system to produce any real value to our society, and at worst it demonstrates how our cultural system feeds into the crisis by keeping the masses intoxicated with nonsense. A typical citizen who is too concerned with paying next month’s rent to investigate what is happening around them may have no clue just how serious this moment in history is if their main form of cultural consumption are songs like Life is Good and Adore You. In moments where revolution becomes necessary, we can’t have that. We need EVERYONE to be aware of what is happening, so they can be a part of the revolution, ensuring the revolution is powerful, democratic, and fair.

A Punk Revolution Now can fix this

Imagine an alternative scenario where instead of worthless musical ego trips dominating the airwaves, masterpieces like The Velvet Underground’s Heroin, Gang of Four’s To Hell with Poverty, and Public Enemy’s Party for Your Right to Fight were the new baseline of what a decent song consisted of. No more basic drones-- everyone is cool now. It would be a massive cultural shift that values intellectual curiosity, questioning authority, and taking action to solve problems instead of worshiping powerful figures who profit from this system. Songs which actually lay bare the basic fabrics of our societal realities need to be our bare minimum standard of good art. No more fucking around; everyone needs to understand now is the time to GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS AND FIGHT!
