Punk Rock Archaeology wants to make you forget all about the boring history classes of your past. (Your high school history teacher was also the football coach, wasn’t he? I’m so sorry.) History doesn’t have to be a mind-numbing list of dates and places; it’s the story of humanity itself – including all the mistakes, triumphs, and general dumb crap that we’re capable of.

I’ll combine comedy and informed research to bring you the latest updates on topics like the invention of beer, cloning wooly mammoths (yes, that’s a thing that is actually happening), how wildcats and wolves became our stupidly fluffy pet cats and dogs, and why colonialism is even worse than you know. I’ll teach you everything you wish you’d learned about the Opium Wars, cave paintings, bog bodies, cannibalism, and why humanity ever decided to commit to this whole farming thing in the first place. If we want to understand the world around us today, we’ve got to learn where we came from. Punk Rock Archaeology is 1000% guaranteed to be the most awesome path on the internet to that knowledge.

Punk Rock Archaeology is the work of me, Patty Hamrick. I have a M.A. in archaeology from New York University, teach at Brooklyn Brainery, and have excavated at sites in the US, Cyprus, Syria, Oman, and India. I’m currently working on a book of popular narrative history about NYC’s African Burial Ground.

Your support makes my research, writing, and work in public history possible. Also, I have a pickaxe and I know how to use it.

Stone Age
$2 or more per month

Get early access to my tl;dr series (snarky science article reviews), as well as research for my wacky historical twitter threads. And the bonus ability to ask questions that I will actually answer!

Bronze Age
$5 or more per month

Twice a month you'll get access to in-depth posts about little known aspects of history and archaeology. If you've ever wanted to attend one of my classes and couldn't make it in person, this is for you! Each post will be at least 1,000 words.

Iron Age
$10 or more per month

In addition to access to my posts and research, you'll get to participate in periodic polls that will help decide what I'll be researching, teaching, and writing about next! You'll also get the opportunity to suggest a scientific article (or topic that you'd like me to find an article on) for me to eviscerate... I mean, to review, as part of my tl;dr series. That's right, you're in the punk rock pickaxe driver's seat!
