My name is Rae Spoon. I'm a trans/agender musician, author and podcast-creator, and I run a record label. I live on unceded Lekwungen territory (Victoria, Canada). I'm hoping for this Patreon to support me in sharing what I'm working on with people whether or not they can support that work with money.

If you can't support with money, but want to subscribe to my Patreon feed for free downloads of home recordings, demos, covers, podcasts and writing, join my Rae Spoon Patreon monthly email list for all of the content that I can legally share: http://eepurl.com/cAK2Df

Because of who I am and the type of work I do, I'm not often supported through mainstream funding channels, so any amount really helps me spend my time focusing on making stuff and helping other artists out.

Music:

I have released eight solo albums as well as four collaborative albums. I'm always in some state of creating a new one, whether I'm writing, arranging, recording or touring to support the music I'm releasing. I usually release a full-length album every couple of years as well as many collaborations in between. I also enjoy recording the odd cover and making up experimental pieces.

I play lots of shows all around. I try to find accessible spaces to play and to play with other artists who are working with anti-oppression politics in mind. Often the shows are DIY and rely on local communities to happen. I try to keep the costs accessible by offering no-one-turned-away policies whenever I can.

Music Videos:

I've made many music videos and I always love pairing up with creative directors to add a visual element to my music. I usually release one or two of these with every full-length album.

Writing:

I have published two books with Arsenal Pulp Press, along with contributions to various anthologies. I also create blog posts and have written for CBC Canada and Huffington Post. I also have speaking engagements through organizations and universities that I plan on posting in here. I may also post drafts and other things that may not have found a home elsewhere.

Coax Records:

I created Coax Records to make a home for my catalogue of music. Since I started it in September 2015, we've released twenty albums. I've been working with many artists who don't necessarily find mainstream funding or music industry support, and we’ve been working to build a network for them to play shows across Canada and distribute their music.
