Let's make the Neotokyo Remake happen!

Hi, I'm Rain. I've been around the NT community since about 2009, hosting servers, playing NT Fridays, doing this and that. Perhaps we've met somewhere?

This Patreon page is all about the yet elusive Neotokyo Remake (name still pending!), and finally turning it into reality.

If you're unfamiliar with the remake project, it's basically an open(ed) source reimplementation* of Neotokyo for the more modern Source 2013 engine. The main goals of the project are bug fixing and opening the game mechanics for further modding. And all the nice things we get for free along the engine upgrade, such as HDR lighting and native Linux support.

Here's an example of the sorts of things recently being ported:

Why Patreon

I picked up the previous 2016 remake project again this summer to work on, and progress has been slow but steady.

So here's the thing: While the remake is moving along, it takes a lot of time. I'd love to be able to spend way more of my time on this thing than is currently possible. Getting paid for at least some of those hours would help a great deal.

In any case, thanks for reading! See you in NT!

Places to reach me:

Public feature/issue tracker is on Trello here, if you'd like to see an outline of ongoing progress, or join in on the programming.

Can I test the Remake right now?

Yes! However, note that it's still quite early stage and not really feature complete. If you wish to look around in-game regardless, as one of the Patreon perks you can download periodic development builds along with changelogs as the project moves along. Of course, you can also compile the source code yourself completely for free (link below).

*1 The Source SDK license puts some limits on the open source aspect; all of the code is freely available for viewing and forking within the license constraints, though.

*2 All the Neotokyo assets are loaded as dependencies from an existing NT installation, to steer clear of any copyright issues. The project only hosts original (and Source SDK) code for implementing game mechanics from scratch. For programmers, the source code is available at: https://github.com/NeotokyoRevamp/neo
