About Rationality Rules

Hello my fellow apes! Thank you kindly for taking the time to checkout my Patreon page, I sincerely appreciate it. Rationality Rules is, as you’re almost certainly aware, a YouTube channel that offers a plethora of philosophical content. This includes refutations of religious and pseudoscientific arguments, analyses of religious and philosophical debates, and, on occasion, commentary on politics.

So, why Patreon? Well, there are several reasons, but the most important pertains to free speech. As it currently stands, in an effort to put bread on their family’s table, content creators either consciously or unconsciously do what they can to ensure that their videos are “advertiser friendly”, and the problem is that this decision is in the exclusive hands of Google’s algorithm and staff. Long story short, this causes content creators not to speak about what unfortunately most needs to be spoken about, and in my opinion, this is causing genuine damage to the fabric of our society. Hence, I don’t want the ship that is Rationality Rules to depend on such whimsical waters, and outside of a subscription service, Patreon is simply the most stable alternative.

Other reasons for crowd funding revolve around general expenses. To the untrained eye YouTube channels seem low-budget, but they’re surprisingly expensive. Your support, should you kindly chose to provide it, will be spent on hardware such as cameras, microphones, and lighting; software such as Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Audition; subscription services such as Videoblocks and Epidemic Sound; and on acquiring the critiques of PHD scientists and philosophers. In time it will also allow me to employ researchers and tech-wizards both part and full time.

Over the years that channel’s quality of content and frequency of publishing has dramatically increased, and the hope is to eventually be at the standards of the likes of CrashCourse and Kurzgesagt (which will necessitate employing talented people).By supporting this channel, you’ll be helping make humanity just a little but more rational. You’ll be providing the world with educational and entertaining videos, which will in turn, I hope, make intelligence just a bit “cooler.”Whether you become a patron of not, thank you for considering doing so. In this day and age, confrontational (outrage) content is king, and so channels with a modus apparatus of respect are unfortunately struggling to survive, and are thus dissipating.

- A fellow ape, Steve

At this level, I'll be able to outsource even more work, and will be able to seriously consider hiring researchers full time (so far, being able to hire them part time has been incredibly useful). With mundane tasks being done by others, this will enable me to better make use of my own time, and thus increase the quality and quality of videos. It will also allow me to work on my book, and other projects (such as the Debunked card game).
