Software Upkeep and Paying Guests!
$300 per Episode
Cables are cheap, algorithms are not. This'll pay for regular updates so the studio stays up and running and all the software plays nice together. But since that's a once-a-quarter cost (at most), this will also go towards being able to pay guests their going-rate for their time. And maybe also buy them a beer so they say slightly more than they should.
On The Road!
$600 per Episode
After a few episodes at this level I'll be able to build a rig that's portable but high enough quality to take on the road to record whatever (and however much of it) (and however many there are), wherever. The goal is that this system sounds as good as my home studio.

ABOUT
The world is a noisy place. It's an easy reaction to have to your surroundings: there's lots going on and you have to just let some things go un-considered. If you considered it all, you'd lose it! Too often, though, and for a million very complicated and interesting reasons, we're more likely to leave the sonic content of our world unconsidered. In one ear, out the other. If it even makes it through your pair of noise canceling headphones.

Reasonably Sound is a podcast about the science, culture and theory of all those generally unconsidered audio things. How did we, as a culture, decide what note to use to tune an orchestra? Whats the deal with onomatopoeia in comic books? Whats the history of "the drop" in EDM music and why is it so effective? How do your noise canceling headphones WORK anyway? These are the kinds of things we talk about on Reasonably Sound.

Not just for acousticians or musicians, not just for audiophiles or gear nerds ... Reasonably Sound is a podcast for anyone who wants to know more about–ask questions about, think deeply about, consider their experience of–sonic information.

WHAT'S THE CASH FOR?
This Patreon will fund the continued improvement of Reasonably Sound. For instance: original sources for research can cost upwards of $120 for a textbook! PDFs of academic papers can be $30 to $75 a pop! Before now, Reasonably Sound has had zero budget. Springing for those things has been like treating myself (and you all). I'd love to be able to access such materials on the regular, so I can pull out the rad bits and tell you about them.

Also: I travel lots. But my studio is ... a room. In my house. If this Patreon reaches the higher milestones, I'll be able to afford a high quality portable rig (read: better than an iPhone) to bring you amazing recordings from beaches, concerts, airports, wildlife reserves, and... well... probably some hotel rooms. But man they'll be the best sounding hotel rooms you've ever heard.

There's a rundown to the left of the milestones I'm interested in, and a list of rewards below, but I hope it suffices to say that I'm excited to keep making Reasonably Sound, but doubly excited to keeping making it with your support, and support that will help it grow in scope and ambition.
