That Guy in the Hat: Who is He?

That's me. I'm Alex. I post weekly music reviews on a blog known titled Red Hat Reviews. And there, I've been posting weekly reviews of various albums from my favorite artists. Each review is several thousand words long, giving an in depth look at each song on the album. I'll get lost in the music and dive into lyrics as I reflect upon the existential questions of life that both haunt and drive me. My focus genre will be electronic music, though I'm willing to venture into other genres if you happen to request them.

The Unknowable Future: What do we Know about it?

Well, I just said it was unknowable, didn't I? Let's see if I can make an educated guess. Like I said, I'm currently releasing only one review a week. What I'd like to do is update that to three a week (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday).

I'd also like to start working on some other creative projects as well. I've tried dabbling a bit in music production (not much progress there so not sure where that'll go) and I've got an incredibly ambitious writing project that I've been planning for quite some time (I'd definitely like to get that ball rolling some time in my life but one thing at a time). I'd really like to see how far I can go with these projects in the limited time I have on this planet.

The Price of Support: What's in it for You?

I've set up 5 different tiers each with three different elements to them: Hatpoints, Credits and Previews. I'll go over each of them individually.

Hatpoints

For each month that you support me, you'll be granted the ability to request whatever you want for me to review. singles, albums, compilations, you name it. I don't even care if it strays away from my usual taste. I will review anything you pay for. For each tier you reach you get more Hatpoints each month (1 per 50 cents). Here's some general tips for using hat points.

  • Please only request full releases. I'm not going to review a particular song off of a particular album. It's much easier for me to remain organized by reviewing a full album than a mess of songs. Separately released singles are allowed, but if they're part of a larger release, I'd prefer reviewing the full thing.
  • Hatpoints will roll over into the next month so if you want to save up some Hatpoints for late requests, you are welcome to do so. But I'd prefer it if you try to keep your requests under twenty songs. I'm not going to enforce that rule, but it would be polite if you didn't overwhelm me with a ridiculously sized compilation.
  • You may request the same album multiple times even within the same month. If you have 20 Hatpoints, you can use them to request the same 10-song album twice. Requested reviews will be selected randomly so the more frequently an album appears on the list, I'll likely get around to reviewing it sooner.
  • I will be honest about my opinion of whatever I request. Therefore, your requests are not guaranteed a positive review. If I don't like it, it would be pretty inauthentic to praise it.
  • Self promotion requests are allowed, but be aware of the previous point.
  • If I'm currently working on the album you're requesting, I'll let you know and you can pick something else with the points you would have spent.

For now, I'll be doing requested on Fridays that happen to fall on odd days. If there aren't any requests available before I'm ready to start reviewing for that particular week then I'll just do one of the reviews from my top artists.

Credits

Credits will appear on a special Credits page on my website, thanking all my supporters for keeping this blog running. I explain it pretty well within the tier descriptions. I only have one extra thing to mention. When making the remarks from the Red Fedora Tier, try not to be obsessively obscene or lengthy (I know lengthy is hypocritical considering my reviews, but brevity would be nice in this case). We'll work out the details via the Patreon Messages.

The Ascended Headwear tier is quite a special one. Whoever makes the largest monthly donation (so long as it reaches this tier), will get their own promotional page on my website. Think of it as the Red Beret tier but you've "ascended" past the credits.

Previews

Previews allow you to see snippets of upcoming reviews as I write them out. You'll get your preview in the Patreon feed as soon as I finish the first draft for a particular song in the review. Which songs you get depend on your tier. The closer a song is to average the lower the tier you need to get a preview of it.

More?

I may add more benefits as I go on. Perhaps they'll be related to some of my other projects if I can make some momentum on those. For now this is what we have.

The End: What Else is there to Say?

Not much actually. I think I've just about covered it all. Thank you in advance for whatever support you'd like to give. I look forward to presenting reviews (and perhaps more) to you.
