I am Renaissance the Poet and among many things, I am a hip-hop and spoken word artist, as well as, a graduate of the University of Washington who double majored in history and philosophy. I have been engaged in the struggle for Black and Brown Liberation and have been active in the Black Lives Matter movement. I believe police brutality, the Prison Industrial Complex, the Military Industrial Complex, climate change, immigration, racism, institutional discrimination, and patriarchy all intersect into a system of oppression within capitalism that marginalizes and suppresses people, but particularly people of color, worldwide.

My focuses in college were the system of mass incarceration, the school-to-prison pipeline, social movements for positive and beneficial social change, the jurisprudence of the domestic and international legal frameworks of rights, and justice. As an activist and advocate, I have fought for an equitable application of the laws that are just, the repeal of laws that are unjust, an end to the disparaging conditions and factors that have led to the school-to-prison pipeline, a new system of punishment and reformation, and for equitable access to education and employment. This work has taken me from protesting in the streets, to meeting with legislators, to providing city and county councils with testimony, to school board hearings, and the Board of Regents of the University of Washington.

My goal in life is to help devise a new socioeconomic system for the entire planet that is environmentally sound, socially just, and equitable for all. This cannot and should not be done alone. I both need and want your help conceptualizing and working toward a new way of life for us all. Much as the rural south Bob Moses encountered when he with the NAACP, CORE, and SNCC ventured in to Mississippi for Freedom Summer, many people are not completely aware of our rights, privileges, and immunities, or the truth of the conditions we live with. I believe that music and art are powerful methods that can be utilized as tools to inform the people, grab their attention, and to provide some direction. At the very least, art is enjoyable and tends to foster conversation among people, which leads to greater understanding.

Primarily, my artistic work focuses on social justice, liberty, equity, and the dissemination of facts through music, poetry, photography, and videos. My most recent hip-hop video is titled, "Hustle for Life" and flushes out some common motivations behind choices people may make in life that lead to their being ensnared in the criminal 'justice' system, hooked on drugs, without a home, destitute and impoverished in our society. Most of my creations address social problems and/or potential solutions to them.

I have geared all my music, education, and activism to understanding, confronting, challenging, and changing this unjust and inequitable system of power and oppression and creating the opposite in its stead. With your help, we can achieve this, or at least continue the struggle toward achieving it.

Thank you for the love.

Goals
$385 of $1,500 per month
Earning $1,500 will allow me the time and flexibility to continue the social justice work that influences and motivates my creations. It will also grant me the capacity to reinvest in the communities and with the people I am working with and on behalf of.
