About Replika Publishing

Replika Publishing is an independent publisher in Berlin producing under two branches; Replika Volumes and Replika Artist Books. The former is a three dimensional, curated artist periodical in which artists, writers, musicians and creators of all descriptions are invited to respond to a given theme with object-based works. The latter; through close collaboration with artists; small-run artist books. We explore new methods of exhibition through printed matter and book arts.

In October 2020 we finished production of our latest Title: ‘Greek Dog Days’ a Photo Book Authored by German Photographer Ilja Niederkirchner and accompanied by an essay by 3.14 (Artist name for Greek Political Science doctorate candidate Alexandros Nikolas Pnevmatikos).

Due to the unforeseen circumstances which Covid19 have presented us with, our usual mode of presenting a new title has to be reconsidered. Typically as an independent Art Book Publishing House, we present our new titles at large international symposiums and art book fairs. Generally each title would receive exposure to 8-15 different audiences internationally within a year. Now we must consider new smaller, more intimate forms of presentation. This can also be seen as an opportunity to pinpoint particular audiences and explore new modes of presentation and exhibition of each title.

We have, for these reasons and more, reached out to an artist-run photo and Photobook gallery and project space in Athens, Greece: Zoetrope. They have a well established reputation internationally for production workshops, exhibitions, portfolio reviews and more of extreme quality and with the highest standing within the international Photobook community. Upon beginning communication with Alexandra and Yorgos from Zoetrope, we quickly discovered the opportunities for both Replika Publishing and Zoetrope to work together on various projects and broaden and combine both of our established communities.

We kindly ask for your support in order to take the first steps in establishing what will become and strong and long withstanding partnership between our two organisations, two cultures as well as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present an outstanding body of work by Ilja Niederkirchner in the city in which it was made.
