About Sue Borchardt

I tell stories of models, theories, research, and tools of complex problem spaces to illuminate ways forward.

here's my standard third person bio:
Sue Borchardt's work weaves art, ideas, technology, story-telling, and user experience into animated videos and visual artifacts that put sense-making into service. Her passion for exploring the tensions between theory and practice informs her use of narrative, metaphor, motion, and music to document the insights and puzzles of groups learning & working together. In collaboration with clients and informal groups, Sue facilitates teams, organizations, and communities in making sense of both the frustration and fulfillment of collaborative work by articulating and deepening shared knowledge.

She holds a Bachelors Degree in electrical engineering from University of Maryland, and a Masters in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard's Graduate School of Education. In her early professional life, she designed and prototyped user interfaces for the first generation of color radar displays, and later, query tools and visualizations for the Human Genome Database.

A fascination with the complexity of individual, group, and organizational change efforts motivates her to continue to learn about learning, bringing an ever-expanding set of lenses to her inquiry. Among these are neuroscience, biology, adult development, cognitive science, social psychology, and anthropology. Through her work and continued research, she has collected a treasure trove of theoretical models and frameworks from these domains, as well as generative practices that inform her animations and her explorations with groups.
back to 1st person...
I value informality, play, beauty, & joy in doing the serious work of fostering equity & social justice. My "long game" is to arrive at the end of my time on the planet having made it a little easier for folks to learn, earn, move-about, connect, and thrive.

You can get a sense of what this all means by checking out the videos I've already made: Borchardt's sense made so far
Other places you can find me around the interwebs making sense of sh*t:
