Hi ! My name is Ashmole Faire-Ring and I’m 17 years old . I’m on a mission to restore a 1922 Thames sailing Barge called Growler  to transport cargo under sail around Europe and to spread awareness about plastic pollution! I intend to use Growler to educate both the young and the old about alternative products to plastic and to help clean our oceans !

Thank you so much for showing an interest by reading this ! Growler is a by far an away the largest project of my life . I built a sailing dinghy when I was 10 and since then I have done a lot of work on boats but nothing this size . Growler is 32ft long and is a third sized version of the Sara ! The fastest barge ever built .

I was given Growler in the August of 2018 . She was located in a barn in Dedham(Suffolk ) where she had been for 22 years waiting for someone to restore . After this I set about sorting the travel arrangements to have her moved to a Burnham Overy Staithe in Norfolk where my home is . The travel arrangements were very complicated as the barn where she was being stored in was very low and the track very narrow ! However , with the huge support of everyone who donated via crowdfunder she arrived in Overy Staithe in late November. Since then we have covered her up and have done small things to her documented in the videos below . I will be making a start in earnest when I finish school in June ! I am hugely excited by this project and cannot wait to make a start .

Growler requires a full restoration which includes replacing 300ft of planking , a new transom , engine , sails and rigging . In order for me to keep making these videos and for the project to run smoothly I would really appreciate any support you could give me ! It will go mainly the cost of timber , tools , filming kit and general expenses associated with restoring a traditional sailing vessel !
