Hello; I'm Richard! Thank you so much for coming to my Patreon page and thinking about contributing! Knowing that you're here means a ton to me.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with my work: I do a lot of things. Mostly, I write. Essays, articles, and poetry are my main mediums, but I'm also working on a fantasy novel and a whole host of short stories.

I also make video documentaries about travels I take around the world as a digital nomad, and I design, code, and ship a ton of different types of websites as a way of making art.

Here's a few things I'm working on at the moment, with your help:

  • Nomad As Fuck. I run this site where I interview awesome people I hear of who you could call "Nomad As Fuck". All ages, all walks of life.
  • 58 Liters. This is a site dedicated towards talking about everything I carry in my backpack as a digital nomad, along with all of the stories I have around each item.
  • Francis Bacon and Eggs. A philosophy cooking show, where I read Francis Bacon's essays while making eggs in my kitchen, using a fake British accent.
  • Antinomadic. A website about how much it sucks to be a nomad, where I gather stories from other nomads and try to write like it really matters. Yes, I run this at the same time as Nomad As Fuck.
  • The Practice Newsletter. I try to write a newsletter a day, as a way of accustoming myself to writing for others.
  • The Litt Review. I review every book I read, pointing out what I loved, what I didn't, and what I learned.
I do more than this, too! And I want to make even more.

Alright, let's get to some questions.

Quick - what if I don't want to do Patreon, but I want to donate?
No worries! Just go to  my Plasso dashboard and donate there; or on Paypal at [email protected].

Ok, so that's a lot. But why should I trust you? What have you done before?

Good question. I've got a lot of stories to draw from. Here are some highlights:
- Sailed my own yacht in the Med. I knew I was going to live in Malta, so I bought a yacht in Sicily on Ebay, and learned how to sail enough to get it 90 miles across a shipping lane without getting killed. I had no qualifications, no license, no insurance, and no regrets.
- Got paid to drink a lot. I founded [The User Is Drunk](theuserisdrunk.com), where people paid me money to drink and look at their websites. This got a lot of press, and went wildly viral.
- Wrote the dictionary for a fake language. I was in charge of the Na'vi dictionary on LearnNavi.org for two years. I used to be fluent in the language spoken by aliens in the movie Avatar.
- Swam in the winter ocean in Svalbard, in the Arctic. My friends and I organized and went to a JavaScript conference in the arctic circle. Each night, we stripped, ran screaming into the arctic ocean, and then ran back inside to be warm. In January, in the polar night.
- Hitched 20,000 miles. All over the place.

If you want to learn how to do these things too, or what it was like, Patreon is the best way to support me telling you. I'm working on writing stories that I can share with you, and in the meantime, I'm always trying to share interesting tips on doing stuff like this yourself.

What do I get as a backer?

I'll post stuff to Patreon regularly. As a backer, you'll get first access to my essays, thoughts, and updates. I'll send along a weekly update, and I'll post an essay a week that is exclusive to Patreon.

Want more? Get in touch. I'm happy to edit my rewards to make it easier for me to help you level up.

Why are you on Patreon?

I'm here because I make a lot of websites and content which isn't directly incentivized, but which often costs me money to get off the ground and get going. A good example is websites: I make a ton of websites! Each of domain costs around $13.17 to buy - that all adds up.

Being on Patreon allows me to figure out how to make those costs back easily, and not sweat the small stuff. I'm using this to make more art. For great good!

Where do the little tier drawings come from?

I used to run a webcomic, years ago! It was a fun thing to do. They come from the Burnt Fen Maunderings archives

I have more questions, dude! How can I get in touch?

As always, I am just an email away if you've got any questions. Send me a line at richard at burntfen.com, or contact me  @richlitt on Twitter!
