THE RIFTWALKERS is a globe-trotting, heart-stopping adventure about two very special characters who are called on to investigate a series connected events that threaten all of reality.

There are two worlds to our existence: the one we know, which we can see and hear and smell and touch. And the one we can’t see, the world of the eternal: the spirit realm. Or as my main characters call it, the Shadow World (for reasons you’ll learn in the books). I’ve been fascinated by that other world all my life, and I believe it to be 100% real. Most of my previous books have touched on the Shadow World and its connection to our world in one way or another. I’ve spent countless hours pondering what it’s like there, and what might exist there. Angels and demons, certainly, but what else could there be? How does that place work? What are its physics like? And why did God create the universe structured with 2 layers — one of them hidden from us?

But back to the story. Although actions from one world can affect the other, standing guard between them is a barrier that keeps them separate. I call this barrier “the Veil.”

THE RIFTWALKERS asks... What if punctures began to appear in the Veil? What could cause that? What if there’s a reason the two worlds have always been kept separate, and what would happen if the two worlds began to bleed into one another? What would that mean for our existence?

Answering those questions is some of the most fun I’ve ever had as a writer. I will tease you only with this: the story you think you’re reading may not be the story you’re really reading in the end.

THE RIFTWALKERS is what’s next from novelist Robin Parrish, a series of serialized novels that focus on different “cases,” each telling a complete story in one book, but a grander story altogether. They focus on the supernatural with elements of fantasy and science fiction, and loads of Parrish’s trademark mystery and suspense.

tl;dr - THE RIFTWALKERS is about a pair of characters who investigate punctures in the Veil that separates our world from the spirit realm.

THE RIFTWALKERS will unfold in a series of short novels or “episodes”; I’m aiming for about 20,000 words each, but that’s really just a guess. Five episodes will comprise one volume or “season” of the overall story. And if you’re picking up a TV series-like structure, that’s intentional.

Individual books/episodes will be released as ebooks as I finish them. Ideally, I’d like to do at least 4 a year, but I’m not going to promise that because life has a way of undermining even my most conservative plans. Once a full season of five installments is complete, I’ll publish a printed omnibus of the entire season in one volume.

I have plans for multiple seasons, though it’s too early to definitively say how many in all.

tl;dr - THE RIFTWALKERS is like a TV show in book format. 5 episodes = 1 season.

People are always telling me they want more of my stories. “When is your next book coming out?” is a question I hear frequently. Well, here’s your chance to have a direct and profound influence on what I write and how often I’m able to do it.

The last ten years have not been kind to my family. We’ve faced one financial setback after another. My list of health problems is well known, and my wife Karen has faced her share of physical issues of late, too. I love my wife and my kids, and it guts me that I’m not physically able to provide for them. We’re up to our eyeballs in debt, largely thanks to medical bills and the toll our health problems have taken on us.

There’s only one thing I know how to do well, but the way writers make money from writing has changed drastically over the last decade. Ask any writer. Doesn’t mater what kind of writing they do. Journalism has become a sea of highly stressful, impossibly competitive content farms producing endless streams of clickbait faster than anyone can ever read them. Novelists must come with a built-in audience of tens of thousands of loyal readers before a publishing company will even look at them. (Gone are the days of hungry editors taking chances on promising new talent.) Self-publishing has evened the playing field; storytellers have both more control and less control over their destinies than ever before. But it’s all too easy for our work to get lost amid the noise of new books being self-published daily, en masse.

So I'm embracing the brave new world of publishing by giving Patreon a chance, with very specific goals attached. If we haven’t reached a certain amount per month by the end of 2019, I’ll discontinue with Patreon and I’ll try to keep writing the usual way. But if we hit that magic number — a very realistic and doable monthly amount, by the way — then I’ll keep creating special content for patrons, knowing that the future of THE RIFTWALKERS, and more importantly, that of my family, is secure.

tl;dr - I want to write, but can’t do it without income to support my family. You can help make new Robin Parrish novels happen (and happen much faster) by becoming a RIFTWALKERS patron.

So you’re intrigued, but you want to know what’s in it for you. Fair enough. Here’s what I have in store:

  • Blogging: an exclusive blog dedicated to THE RIFTWALKERS where I share insights on day-to-day progress; behind-the-scenes details about the books, the storylines, the characters, etc.; inside glimpses of the life of a writer; tips for writers; and lots more. Sometimes this will be brief updates, sometimes much longer articles. I promise to keep them interesting, and there will NEVER be spoilers. Ever.
  • Videos: messages from me on a regular basis, usually with updates of a more personal nature. Family, health, cooking, Hapkido, and so on. But book and story related stuff, too. There will even be live streams from time to time.
  • Interaction: access to interact directly with me and other fans, daily.
  • Extras: like the extra features on a Blu-Ray or DVD, this is where the best treasures are found. There will be supplementary materials not available in the books, “Director’s Commentary” videos, Riftwalkers merchandise discounts, and more. Here’s one I’m especially excited about: one of my two protagonists keeps a personal diary throughout the series, chronicling their adventures and the evidence they collect. Snippets of this diary will appear in the books, but Patreon supporters will get the entire diary. This effectively comprises an entire additional book just for patrons.

Everyone that offers monthly support at or above the “Special Agent” level of just $5 gets access to everything I publish via Patreon, aka everything I just listed above.

Ready to jump on board this roller coaster? I promise a ride you’ll never forget. If only you knew all of the secrets and mysteries and revelations and twists and dramatics and surprises that await within the pages of THE RIFTWALKERS! I can’t wait to begin sharing this story with you. I think it may be the most exciting thing I’ve ever done.

If you're in, might I suggest the "Assistant Director" tier level? It's by far the best option, offering the best bang for your buck. How so? Because you get all this:

  • Complete access to all exclusive content here on Patreon.
  • eBook copies of every book in THE RIFTWALKERS series, as soon as they're available.
  • A special "Patreon Edition" of each season's printed omnibus, delivered to you at the end of every season. These editions will not be available to the general public.
  • Paperback, autographed copies of my first 6 novels: Relentless, Fearless, Merciless, Offworld, Nightmare, and Vigilante. Supplies are limited on some titles, so first come first serve.
  • eBook copies of Corridor and The Magic of Christmas. (Wish I could offer more ebooks, but these are the only ones I have available in that format.)
  • A pack of promotional trinkets from yesteryear that includes a working Nightmare flashlight, Vigilante "Hand" sticky pads, and bookmarks & postcards.
That's 6 print books, two ebooks, every RIFTWALKERS ebook, every special Patreon edition RIFTWALKERS omnibus, and some swag goodies -- for $20/month patronage.

Keep in mind:
  • The average Starbucks customer spends at least $30+/month on coffee.
  • The average American family spends more than $225/month on eating meals out.
  • The average cell phone bill is $50-$60/month.
  • Speaking of phones, anytime you buy a new device, you usually pay at least $25/month (for 24 months) to pay it off.
  • The high-speed Internet that most of us depend on these days starts around $40/month.
  • Cable TV, even the most basic, limited package, typically starts at around $25/month.
  • Pet owners spend an average of $126/month on their furry friends.
If 100 readers pledged $20/month, it would be more than enough to meet our goals and needs.
