I've begun my journey as a writer.

It feels weird.

Now nearing sixty, I've been a visual artist who's loved science, science fiction and geekdom in general since I was a kid. I'm still a visual creator, though I work in a different domain. I build furniture, display, props, and housing solutions. It's a good day job. Pays the bills. It keeps me from missing the painting of landscapes which has been a driving force since I was five.

Why stop painting if I enjoy it so? Let's face it, at some point there is no room to continue stacking your output.

Why writing?

That's what I asked myself. In school I hated creative writing. Essays? Please, let's not go there. But, I have always been a reader. A consumptive, devouring reader. Fiction, nonfiction, instruction manuals, whatever. Especially science fiction and murder mysteries.

This reading habit brought me to the challenge of writing. I have read way too much mediocre work which for some reason was published. Yeah, my ego said, I can do at least that good. Maybe better.

For me, too much of the work I read is written with a failure to include the myriad of humans inhabiting our world. This, creating characters outside one's comfort zone, believable characters, characters you could root for, have a beer with, who could expand your understanding of society, this was a provocation I knew I wanted to face.

After a few years of writing as a secret, guilty pleasure, I put snippets in front of people who could be brutally, yet lovingly honest. People who read voraciously. The reaction was better than hoped for. Now I have a few drafts and redrafts. I need an editor.

Which is the point of this Patreon. Yeah, I've got a job, pays the bills, but that's pretty much as far as the paycheck goes. So, I'll see if through the support of patrons I can afford an editor. I'd like to publish, and I accept that the services of an editor are warranted.

What will patrons receive for their support? Other than first read of new material, many acknowledgements when I publish, and copies of the published work, I'm not sure. You may have to help me out with this one.

I'm going to try posting chapters of a new draft on a weekly basis. I'll discuss the story with the first post.

For those who can afford just a bit more giving. As I self edit, I format an e-book. You can have a copy, to be updated as the book is polished.

Very generous supporters, I don't have a first born, but we'll work out something.

How about I do a dead tree version, with a shout out, along with the e-book.

Goals
$0 of $750 per month
This amount may change with research, but when the goal is reached, I will submit my first draft for editing.

Wish me luck.
