Hello! I'm Chris. I'm the person behind everything you see and read on Roads.org.uk. Since 2001 I've been running this website and filling it with everything about the UK road network that I think people might find interesting. If you're reading this, hopefully you've found it interesting too.

The whole website is a one-man band. I write the articles, I take the photographs, I draw the illustrations, I do the research, I design the pages, I develop the specialist software that runs the site and I maintain the web server. I spend whole days on a regular basis painstakingly combing through paperwork in Government archives. I spend weekends and evenings writing and drafting and re-drafting long-form articles. I drive to far-flung places to get a picture of something important. I filter the spam out of the comments.

All of that is fine, because it's my hobby and it's what I love to do. I do it because I believe a website like this should exist and I do it because so many people visit, read it, share it and find it useful. And for 17 years now, I've done it all out of my own pocket.

Unfortunately for me, it's only getting more expensive. Web hosting. Software and subscriptions that allow me to produce professional and enjoyable content. Fuel for visits and roadtrips to gather material. Sometimes, hotel stays, if I want to cover something more than a few hours' drive from home. All that stuff adds up.

Roads.org.uk is unique. It's the only website that does what it does. Through Patreon, I'm asking whether you'd consider helping me to carry on doing it.

I intend never to run adverts or accept paid articles from sponsors. I will never charge people to visit the site and read whatever they please. But if you enjoy Roads.org.uk, and you can spare a pound or two a month, this is your opportunity to help me cover the costs of what I do. I will be incredibly grateful for that, because it will give me the ability to carry on doing what I love to do without having to make difficult choices and potentially miss out on things I could be covering.

Thanks so much for reading, whether you choose to chip in or not, and more than anything, thank you for visiting Roads.org.uk. I'm very grateful for that too.

It's not much, but $20 a month would cover my web hosting, domain name renewal and other services that keep the site online. It all adds up over the course of a year.
