Intro and my story/situation
Hello, I'm Robbi or officially Robin (thus the birdie for my logo) and I must admit I am very excited and hopeful discovering Patreon, because as a children's book illustrator, cartoonist and fine artist (nope not even close to famous .. yet:)...I'm really living the typical struggling artist cliche. It's always been tough but to be honest, never so tough as it is now.
All I'd like to do is draw, paint and create wonderful items that all can enjoy, that kids and there mum's and dad's can enjoy, that art lovers can appreciate, yes, I'd love to have an opportunity develop my fine-art career too.
But I'd love to do it for a change without the constant worry, stress and pressure of not knowing where meal is going to come from for my dog and I.

Ziggy and I at my Studio. besides work, throwing ball is often the order of the day.

How I happened to get here(you're welcome to skip this part if you like)
About 2 decades ago I got my 1st job as an illustrator and was very excited at the time, thinking I have this wonderful career ahead of me, that I'd be able to be my creative self, create beautiful and wonderful fantasy books that children (and adults) would enjoy.
Sadly it has been far from that, mostly a roller-coaster all the way, because in my country the publishing business is very small and unpredictable. But I always thought it would get better ... being optimistic, struggle through, I thought.
So after many years of late nights for impossible deadlines, only to be left with months in between without work ... things got worse about 2 to 3 years ago. The publishing industry here completely collapsed.
Many got other jobs. Me however, I'm no spring chicken and am qualified at nothing else.
Spend most of my time just trying to keep my head above water.

This is one of my many illustrations.

What I need and would sincerely and HUGELY appreciate
If there's any truth to Patreon, I'd really long to experience and share it.
I want to make magic and I'd like to enjoy doing it, without the struggle and stress, for once in my life.
At the age of 50, yep the big half century ... I am broke and trying to just find food never mind the rest ... I have nothing at the moment, about to loose the car, already evicted because couldn't pay rent and now I have tiny art studio am rent (and sleeping in) to work and try find a way somehow.
I really don't want to loose my car, studio and everything and land up on the street.
If it could be from support through Patreon ... it would literally change my life. And I would be so grateful to all of you out there. I'll pledge myself to Patreon and my followers and produce as much and the best ever can. That's how I feel right now.
I just want to be happy and create.

So how much do I need?
To list what I need to survive, plus enough to be able to create without worry ... I've estimated without being greedy, about $2080/month ... anything more would be a blessing. Below is a small list ...
  1. a small dog friendly home rental
  2. rent for my small art studio
  3. monthly car payments (unfortunately it still belongs to the bank)
  4. Insurance for banks car
  5. Mobile and internet cost
  6. Web cost , hosting etc.
  7. Art material, enough to invest in quality canvasses and paints so that I can have a fair chance in holding exhibitions. Materials are extremely expensive, at least where I am.
  8. Computer maintenance upgrades. I work a lot on my Wacom tablet. My laptop is over a decade old and has seen much better days

And last but not least, besides a couple other things, a chance to relax and actually enjoy life ... can't remember when last I haven't spent time working just trying to survive ... It would be amazing to be able to have enough money (at least once), to take a short break and recharge in nature somewhere.
Nature is my happy place.

Cape Point, near my home, a place I love to escape to. I haven't for in too long.

Conclusion
I came across Patreon.com today ... it sounds like such an amazing initiative ... complete praise to the creator of Patreon, whether something comes of this or not.
Thanks for any way you can help if you decide to do so, otherwise thank you too just for taking the time to read my story.
Wish you all well.

Below is a few more of my works. Please feel free to visit a website I had made (in the hope I generating some income)
