If you’re looking at this page chances are that you know a little bit about me and my work. You may know that I show regularly at the tremendous Speakeasy Art Gallery in New Jersey. Perhaps you saw my exhibition at Lois Lambert Gallery in Los Angeles, visited The Butcher Gallery during the run of “The Book of Demons and Angels,” or have checked out my pieces in The Boston Drawing Project at Carroll & Sons Gallery. Maybe, just maybe, you know my work from The New York Times, the Parisian art journal “Insistence,” or NBC Savannah’s “Southern Scene.” It could be that we’re good friends, that we support each other as fellow artists, or that you’re a long time patron of my artwork.

Regardless of how we’ve come into contact, you’re probably aware that I have a tendency to tackle difficult subject matter, from school shootings and slavery, to devastating tornados and nuclear fallout. The duty of an artist, in my view, is to make work with meaning and purpose. It’s my job to look at the world and courageously reflect upon it, even when the picture may not be pretty.

That brings me to the point behind this fundraising effort. You see, in spite of my success at being able to show around the United States and my appearances in newspapers, magazines, and on television, the art world model is inherently flawed at creating an environment that allows artists to explore the depths of their creativity. As it stands, I’m essentially a manufacturer, creating objects for sale at stores that happen to be called galleries. That’s fine if I were interested in making pretty pictures that would go well in your living room, but my dream is to delve even further into challenging topics without concern over whether or not it will sell.

Have you ever thought of investing in a dream?

With your support, I’ll be able to create projects of a depth and scope unlike any I’ve been able to undertake before. I’ll be able to take my current massive in-progress exhibition “The Other Side of the World Part 4” to multiple cities, likely including yours. I’ll be able to publish my book about “The One in the Duck Feather Cloak.” I’ll be able to engage in collaborative projects with other amazing artists who share a similar vision, but that are now only in the planning stages due to cost concerns.

Most importantly, with your help I’ll be able to do something artistically important with lasting value and worth.

Thank you in advance for your patronage.

Look, I'm not going to downplay what it means to give up going to get that fancy cup of coffee once a month. Seriously, I live on coffee, so I really appreciate what you're doing here.
And to show my appreciation, you're going to get an exclusive signed and numbered print in the mail. Of what, you ask? Well, I'm not sure yet because it will be an entirely new print of a piece I likely haven't even made yet. But I promise it will be quality!
Plus you'll get access to my patron-only posts!

I'm not saying I'm a hipster, but I will say that I'm not above spending ten bucks for a ridiculous artisan sandwich every now and then. And hey, it means something to me that you value what I'm doing as highly as an artisan sandwich because heck, I love them!
So, not only are you going to get an exclusive signed and numbered print, but you're going to get an original too. Now before you get too excited, it's going to be an artisan sandwich level original, not an elegant seafood dinner original, but still. And honestly I sometimes like my little studies better than pieces I spend a whole lot longer on.
Plus you'll get access to my patron-only posts!
Seriously, though, thank you so much.

A dozen donuts at Diablo Donuts in Baltimore will cost you about $25. Same goes for Donut Friend in LA or Reality Bites in Savannah. That's twelve glorious donuts, with toppings like peanut butter cups or blueberries or pineapple cilantro (surprisingly good!) Whoa, maybe I should stop talking about this or I'm going to end up convincing you not to donate!
What I'm getting at is that I 100% understand what you're giving up to help me achieve my dream and you will be rewarded. You'll get an exclusive signed and numbered print, of course, but the original you'll be getting is going to be larger and more... personal. It might still be a study, but if it is, it'll be something that hits home with me somehow.

My wife once found a $50 bill on the ground. It was glorious! I can't remember what we did with that money (it likely had something to do with food, obviously) but I do remember how happy we were all day because of it.
This memory seems appropriate to me when discussing an investment at this level not just because of the number, but because of what it signifies. $50 is no small sum and the kind of dent it would put into my overall goal is noteworthy. Because of this, if you contribute at this level you'll be getting not only an exclusive signed and numbered print, but I'll make a drawing just for you. We'll discuss some concepts and ideas about what might suit you and we'll go from there. I'll even frame it so that it's ready for hanging.
Plus, you might get a little something else every now and then. What that means, I have no idea, but just know that you'll be on my radar.
And, of course, you'll also get access to my patron-only posts!

Wow: Thank you! You're really making an investment in me here and I appreciate it. I'd really like to continue my string of silly food-related commentary here, but I can't find it in my heart to do much more than express gratitude for your generosity.
You're obviously going to get an exclusive signed and numbered print and I'm going to create an original drawing just for you based on our discussions about themes and ideas. But at this point you're becoming a true patron of my work and to me a true patron deserves more than just a couple of things in the mail and my thanks (although you will get that too).
What I'm saying is that if you commit to supporting me at this level you can expect a personal relationship with me and my work. What I mean is that you're occasionally going to get other stuff in the mail, whether it be prints or originals or holiday cards. Sometimes you may get e-mails where I ask you for feedback on a piece that I haven't released out into the public yet. You're definitely "on the list" for any open studios or show previews I do. If I come to your town you can be certain that I'll try to meet up with you at some point.
And obviously, you'll also get access to my patron-only posts!

Simply stated: At this level of sponsorship you are directly responsible for allowing me to realize my dream. Only a poet could adequately express in words what this means to me.
For this amazing support you'll receive an Artist Proof of an exclusive signed and numbered print, a large framed drawing designed with input, discussion, and feedback from you, access to my patron-only posts, random small drawings and prints regularly through the mail, periodic personal correspondence from me, exclusive invites into my studio, exclusive images of in-progress work, and guaranteed access to any event I'm a part of.
Moreover, The Other Side of the World Part 4 will be exhibited in your city or town. You'll receive a personal tour of the show with me before it opens and be given prominent thanks on the walls of the exhibition hall.

There are no words to express the gratitude owed to one so generous as to support me at this level. Thank you.
As above, you'll receive an Artist Proof of an exclusive signed and numbered print, a large framed drawing designed with input, discussion, and feedback from you, access to my patron-only posts, random small drawings and prints regularly through the mail, periodic personal correspondence from me, exclusive invites into my studio, exclusive images of in-progress work, and guaranteed access to any event I'm a part of. The Other Side of the World Part 4 will be exhibited in your city or town. You'll receive a personal tour of the show with me before it opens and be given prominent thanks on the walls of the exhibition hall.
Furthermore, I will fly you and a companion to the opening of the show in either of the other two cities, where you will be the guest of honor at a pre-opening meal with myself and other local artists. You will be a part of the entire process of the opening.
Goals
$120 of $210 per month
With the materials necessary to complete the project having already been handled, next up is archival framing and displaying the pieces. Typically, I'd include these costs in the sale price of my works to re-coup my initial investment. Reaching this goal would therefore reduce the sale prices of all of the pieces in this show that are exhibited in galleries and inch me one step closer to my dream of removing the need to sell altogether.
