Hi! Welcome to my Patreon page.

Patreon believes we can do amazing work with the support of only a small army of vocal supporters. It is is a form of crowd funding where fans develop intimate relationships with their creators, where both stand to benefit.

The Pitch

Ideas matter. Words matter. How you say things, matters.

We need to change the institutional context under which companies behave or humanity may not even live to see the next century. The 'rules of the game' must change. We need better policy, and policy is informed by narrative. How to bridge the gap between where we are now and where we need to be? Through metaphor, art, empathy, and understanding.

Narrative is how we communicate ideas, social cues, beliefs. It is expedient. The glue we need to form trust bonds, so we can get things done. We do not need everyone to accept responsibility, but we do need to lay waste to the rules that got us here. We can nudge deniers to behave the right way by changing the decision context with good policy. They will have no other choice but to conform.

Help me design narratives in which we change the relationship we have with ourselves and nature, to create a world in which people feel safe, comforted, acknowledged, strong, and hopeful of their future, along with the tools needed to enact behavioral change on the national level and beyond.

Not enough people understand the gravity of the threats we are facing, but awareness is growing fast. Kids have begun protesting in the street, loudly proclaiming their right to a bright future.  We can and will unite against this global threat, the green revolution is coming.

The Work

I'm designing an online service to free people from the burden that comes with having to think about food intake. I want to free people from having to think about basic necessities so they are free to work on stuff that matters, like punching climate change in the face. You can follow my progress here. Operating costs will be carried by those with means, so the many can benefit.

I write about two essays a year. They take a long time to write because 1) I struggle with PTSD and 2) ideas take a long time to incubate, and even longer to communicate properly.

I can't be found on social media with my real name. Social media is a form of entertainment to me, which is not conducive to work that matters. If you'd like to be notified by email of new developments, please donate a dollar or more.

The Person

I'm a 30 year old social scientist, philosopher, and entrepreneur from Rotterdam.

My life changed when I met Li An Phoa during my time as a student at Erasmus University. She met me when I was fighting against an illness that frequently robbed me of trust in my senses, but she left a lasting impression nonetheless. She feels the world as heavily as I do. Something that once felt like weakness became something valuable to protect and channel energy towards.

It led to two spectacular failures in entrepreneurship. One called The Rainbow Brothers, which tried to sell sustainable underwear to the LGBT community, and the other a platform for homebuyers to source sustainable furniture, for which I lacked the technical knowhow. The illness eventually rendered me speechless from the pain, which halted all progress.

It took three years to gain some semblance of my life back. I wouldn't be here right now if not for my many supporters, which I thank on the front page of my blog. They free me from worrying about where my next meal will come from so I can focus on work that is bigger than myself. Thank you <3
