I'm a freelance journalist who likes to roam the country looking for the real stories of abortion - the people who have them, the people who perform them, the people who oppose them and how all of these people effect the communities that surround them. In 2013 I wrote a book about the stories behind a variety of abortion restrictions in red states - how they happened, why they mattered - most of which are now on their way to being challenged in the Supreme Court (It's even more relevant now, so go read it!).

My jam is abortion access, my passion is pro-life history nerdity, and my shtick is that I will talk to absolutely anyone at any time - from abortion provider to abortion protester. So yes, that means grabbing a beer with Operation Rescue, chatting about graphic images with Created Equal and debating Pro-Life feminism with New Wave Feminists. I want to know why people think they way they do, and I want to explain that to a national audience.

I have written for Cosmopolitan, The Guardian, Politico, and more. But my best work has always been the in depth writing and storytelling I do on private platforms, unedited and unrestrained by word limits or preconceived notions of what national audiences want to read.

With your help I will be better able to tell those stories with truth, dignity, accuracy, and without a filter. As my Patreon you can get access to news no one else knows, and allow me to research and create new articles, books and multimedia from the sites the mainstream media overlooks. You will also be able to help me finally get to work on my next book, tentatively titled "Women of the Pro-Life Movement: From Backstage to Frontlines."

If you want to obtain photos for use on your own sites and projects, contact me via email for info. My abortion stock image library can be found here.

Tiers
Ticket to Ride
$1 or more per month
You just want to make sure you know what's up, and this is how to do it. You'll get weekly updates on what I'm working on, both published and in the wings.
Ticket to Ride (with a Beer)
$5 or more per month
Same as regular Ticket to Ride, but you have a little more to give.
Behind the Scenes
$10 or more per month
Every story has a mass of material on the cutting room floor. Join this tier and get a peek at tidbits that didn't make it into the final project, such as unseen photos or interview snippets.
Book Buddy
$25 or more per month
Books are hard - and slow. Join me (and keep me on track) as I work on my next book. As a book buddy you will get updates on my newest, help fund the process and get access to interviews as I write.
My New Boss
$50 or more per month
Did you know that many of the sites you read are paying writers $50 a piece? So why not just be my boss? For $50 a month you can email me a topic once a month, and I'll write on it and publish it. You know you want to.
Goals
$269 of $500 per month
When it comes to on the ground reporting, $500 tends to be the out of pocket expenses for one story - airfare, transportation, lodging, food, not to mention childcare at home. Hitting this means an article a month without losing money, and free from an editorial gatekeeper.
