Rob Jonas is creating a website dedicated to covering local high school sports

I created Capital Region HS Sports to report on the broad scope of interscholastic athletics played in Section 2 of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association - a region that stretches from the northern Catskills to the southern Adirondacks, and from the Taconic Hills to the Mohawk Valley. I started this website to fill a growing void in local sports coverage, which is occurring as our region's local newspapers continue to trim the number of sports reporters on their staffs. I know because I was one of them.

I had worked as a sports reporter for 25 years until I was laid off in February 2017. I attempted a career change and worked for a year in the marketing department of a law firm, but I discovered that I was suited only for writing about sports, not the law. This is why I got back in the game by starting Capital Region HS Sports.

While I'm proud to start this venture on my own, it can't really go anywhere without the support of people like you. After all, this is not a hobby to me - this is my career. Please consider a monthly contribution to help me sustain and grow this website, as I am hoping to make this the go-to site for local high school sports coverage in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy region and beyond. All contributors will receive a weekly newsletter that includes features not found on the website, such as exclusive interviews with high school sports athletes and coaches, regional rankings and more.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Patreon page, and please visit Capital Region HS Sports for all the happenings around Section 2.

I want to know that people will support community-based sports journalism on the web. If I have 1,000 patrons backing me, I'll know that I'm on the right track.
