Basically, I’m seeking patrons to continue the wide range of literary cultural work I’ve been involved in for more than two decades.

Since the early 1990s, I’ve been an active writer of poetry, fiction, essays, reviews, creative non-fiction and interviews. I’ve had thirty trade books (poetry, fiction and non-fiction) produced in half a dozen countries, and I’ve performed and published internationally. The work is incredibly rewarding, but has become financially more difficult to sustain. Obviously, I consider the work required to discuss new work to be important, as well as the ongoing engagement required to produce original literary work. As a working artist, the study of art itself is life-long, and constantly evolving.

I haven’t (nor have I ever sought) teaching in a University or any other type of traditional employment. I write; this is what I do. The only way I understand how to produce the best work possible is to be completely immersed in it, and the shift into full-time parenting in the fall of 2014 has done little to reduce my output, per se, yet has focused my attention.

Obviously I am a writer first (after being a parent, obviously), and everything else second, but still wish to be doing what I see as the essential work of reviewing, interviewing, critiquing, publishing and promoting the work of others. And of course, my own writing as well.

Since 2003, I’ve posted hundreds upon hundreds of book and chapbook reviews, critical essays, author interviews and other daily notices over at my blog:
http://www.robmclennan.blogspot.ca/

Since September 2007, I’ve also been conducting numerous interviews, such as the hundreds of interviews with writers of poetry, fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels through my “12 or 20 questions” series:
http://www.robmclennansindex.blogspot.ca/2009/06/12-or-20-questions-second-series.html

As well as a series of “12 or 20 (small press) questions,” featuring literary publishers:
http://www.robmclennansindex.blogspot.ca/2010/03/12-or-20-small-press-questions-third.html

My ongoing bibliography of Ottawa-area literary magazines and presses:
http://www.robmclennansindex.blogspot.ca/2015/07/bibliography-of-ottawa-literary.html

Further interviews exist on the blog for the poetry journal Touch the Donkey:
http://www.touchthedonkey.blogspot.ca/

My extensive series of critical pieces, for example, “Commentaries on Canadian Poetry,” appeared online at Jacket2 during the first three months of 2015:
http://jacket2.org/commentary/rob-mclennan

I've been curating a weekly "Tuesday poem" series over at the dusie blog for a couple of years now:
http://dusie.blogspot.ca/

One of my spring 2016 projects included interviewing as many of the forty years' worth of writers-in-residence at the University of Alberta as part of their anniversary year:
http://www.robmclennansindex.blogspot.ca/2016/01/university-of-alberta-writers-in.html

I am also blogging a monthly "spotlight," featuring new work by a variety of poets:
https://medium.com/@robmclennan

And blogging monthly for Ploughshares:
http://blog.pshares.org/index.php/author/robmclennan/

While I see this kind of cultural work essential, most of this work is, of course, entirely unpaid.
