Robomixology started as a grad project, but we had so much fun during the process that we're aiming to keep it going. In short, the project uses tens of thousands of cocktails from the 1600s to today to create new and interesting recipes using Google Tensorflow-based machine learning.

If you're into that type of thing and want to know more techno-mumbo-jumbo, it, specifically uses Character-based Long Short Term Memory Recurrent Neural Networks to iterate over millions of cocktail recipe characters while forming relationships, probabilities, and inferences on the content. It then uses this knowledge to generate new recipes based on a given input.

For example, if you tell Robomixology you want a cocktail named "The Super Fancy Cocktail" and you'd like for it to have "1 ounce of Vodka", it'll look through all it knows about vodka and other cocktails with similar names and try to create a new recipe for you based on that information.

If the technical stuff is boring, all you need to know is that Robomixology is a fun an interesting way to explore new ingredient pairings, find interesting drinks to make using on-hand ingredients, and learn a little about machine learning in the process.

We've brought a lighter version of the machine learning model online so that you can generate your own recipes at home; the alpha version of the site goes live this week (please mind the bugs). Generating cocktails using machine learning can be a bit costly, so the service has an annual fee attached to it, but we're going to offer a way to give access to certain Patreon tiers, as well.

Our aim on Patreon is to use it as more of our developmental and interactive community for the project while helping us to continue it into the future. We'd really like to add videos and a physical cocktail book to our future products and we think this will be a good way to gauge interest.

So, if you're interested in learning about artificial intelligence, discovering new cocktail ingredient pairings, or just want us to create a cocktail based on your dog's name, join us!

When we reach 100 patrons, I'll translate a collection of Spanish and German cocktail recipe books from the late 1800s and early 1900s and integrate them into the model.
