Hello! I'm Rosemarie—I'm a freelance writer and researcher whose work has been in The Nation, The Outline, and Popula. You might have found me from reading my recent piece on how the American left is failing to support the self-determination movement in Hong Kongmy criticisms of the Facebook group subtle asian memes, the controversial interview I did with Sophie Lewis about her work on theorising gestational labor, my parsing of 奴才 as a useful political critique, or my dumb shitpost about Gayatri Spivak. All of this demonstrates the kinds of theoretical intervention I'm interested in developing in my own writing: I want to produce charitable cultural—and thus political—criticism that illuminates something new and interesting about the world we inhabit. You can find more clips on my website.

That, however, requires a lot of intellectual, emotional, material investiture on my part; every single good piece of writing that you've enjoyed has been a result of protected time and space, where I can sit myself down, read a ton, and think without having to tend to the sundry vicissitudes of survival (I can't write good shit if I'm constantly worrying about making rent). There are several different projects I want to pursue but haven't been able for exactly that reason—attempting to earn enough money to survive in New York City—and my hope is that with your support, I can finally return to thinking and creating actually interesting things, such as developing a poetics of hospitality regarding multilingual texts, writing more about Hong Kong's political situation, writing about books and pop cultural artefacts, or start work on my novel again (lol).

Every penny you put towards my writing will really help—and I am so very immensely grateful for your support.

Thank you, thank you, thank you,
Rosie xx
