Hello! I'm Rosemarie—I'm a freelance writer and researcher whose work has been in The Nation, The Outline (RIP), and Popula. You might have found me from reading my recent piece on how the American left is failing to support the self-determination movement in Hong Kong, the ways Hong Kongers are documenting police brutality against protestors, the controversial interview I did with Sophie Lewis about her work on theorising gestational labor, or my review of Ocean Vuong's On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous. All of this demonstrates the breadth of work I'm interested in pursuing: investigative journalism that gives voice to those who aren't heard, and charitable criticism that illuminates something new and interesting about the world we inhabit, all in service of a more equitable, just world. You can find more clips on my website.

That, however, requires a lot of intellectual, emotional, material investiture on my part; every single good piece of writing that you've enjoyed has been a result of protected time and space, where I can sit myself down, read a ton, and think without having to tend to the vicissitudes of survival. I can't write well if I'm constantly worrying about making rent; there are several different projects I want to pursue but haven't been able for exactly that reason, and my hope is that with your support, I can continue to think and write more about Hong Kong's political situation, books, pop cultural artefacts, and the Internet. Hopefully, your support would also mean that I will eventually have more time to produce fiction.

Every penny you put towards my writing will really help—and I am so very immensely grateful for your support.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

As I don't have a stable source of income, my priority is to make sure I am able to cover rent every month. Everything else is a luxury. Thank you!!
