About Rude Grooms

Rude Grooms creates epicly intimate theatrical experiences rooted in the actor-audience relationship exemplified by Shakespeare’s acting company. Using interactive and responsive techniques of Early Modern English acting companies, we create interactive and accessible productions of Shakespeare, his contemporaries, and new playwrights inspired by the structures they used. We decentralize and increase access to the arts by bringing productions to multiple public spaces, non-traditional venues, and new media and offer free or affordable admission to all of our productions, which enriches our community through cultural engagement that is accessible financially, geographically, and artistically.

Our actors are veterans of Shakespeare’s Globe (London), The Old Globe (San Diego), Classic Stage Company (NYC), and New york Classical Theatre (NYC).Since January 2017, we have:
  • produced 7 full productions, from secret immersive experiences including free outdoor summer productions for Shakespeare's "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Romeo and Juliet," an immersive holiday version of "Twelfth Night," the devised "Ingenue Project," and Halloween productions of rarely seen Jacobean plays "The Witch of Edmonton" and "The Changeling."
  • run a variety of donation-based or low-cost training for actors in Shakespeare, ensemble movement, clown, and puppetry.
  • Presented readings of rarely heard plays like "The Tragedy of Miriam" by Elizabeth Cary (1613) and "The Roaring Girl" by Thomas Dekker and Thomas Middleton (1611).
  • Co-produced Shakespeare Happy Hours (shakespearehappyhours.com) with Seven Stages Shakespeare Company on YouTube
  • Produced season one of our podcast, "This Wooden O" (thiswoodeno.com), hosted by Daniel Kemper and Montgomery Sutton.
Your support will allow us to expand this community building both through in person productions and new media content that is available to audiences around the world.
