I'm Sabrina Vourvoulias, a Latina speculative fiction writer and freelance journalist, and I want to keep writing Latinx- and immigrant-centered stories.

I am the author of Ink, a near-future, immigration-centered dystopia which draws on my memories of Guatemala's armed internal conflict, and of the Latinx experience in the United States. It was named to Latinidad’s Best Books of 2012, and was reissued by Rosarium Publishing in September 2018.

My short fiction has been published by Tor.com, Strange Horizons, PodCastle and in Apparition Literary, Apex, Uncanny, Mithila, GUD, and Crossed Genres Magazines, as well as in multiple anthologies (including [email protected] Rising and Year's Best Young Adult Speculative Fiction 2015). My essays about speculative fiction have appeared at Strange Horizons, Tor.com and Uncanny Magazine, and I have been a presenter at Readercon and Arisia, where I’ve facilitated some truly memorable conversations

My news stories have been published at The Guardian US, Philly.com, Public Radio International’s Global Voices, NBC10/Telemundo62, Philadelphia Weekly, Philadelphia Magazine, City and State PA, and Al Día News, among others. My journalism has garnered a team Emmy and Edward R. Murrow awards (for a multiplatform project on preventing suicide), and multiple José Martí, Pennsylvania News Association and New York Press Association awards.

During the past year I’ve been on a creative tear, and more prolific than in any year since I started writing fiction. I have short stories and novelettes upcoming in Kaiju Rising II, Knaves, Sunspot Jungle, Sweet and Sugar Tooth, the Latinx Archive, and the Monarchies of Mau anthology. (Plus, a long poem of mine will appear in Fireside Quarterly in early January 2019.) I’ve assembled a short story collection, completed a novella and, at long last, started on a second novel.

If you're a fan of my writing, please consider one of the many Patreon options for backing my work. Starting at the $1/month tier level, you will be acknowledged publicly and will gain access to quirky content available only to patrons.
