We are Maik and Michelle, two sailors from different worlds and different cultures with very different perspectives about sailing around the world together on our 43-foot, steel ketch, Seefalke. We also have different levels of sailing experience. Maik (a German) has sailed for more than 20 years, while Michelle (an American) has only been sailing since 2013. Our crew includes two Beagles, Cap’n Jack and Scout!

Our first adventure is a 6,000 nautical-mile voyage from The Baltic Sea (Stralsund, Germany) to Bon Secour Bay (Gulf Shores, Alabama, USA). We set sail on Aug. 19, 2018 and so far have battled the Baltic, sailed through the North Sea nonstop, crossed the English Channel, and survived the ferocious Bay of Biscay! Soon, we will be crossing the Atlantic on our way to Sweet Home Alabama!

We also love to explore and share with you our cool travel destinations and the amazing sea creatures we discover along the way! Come along for the ride!

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT US ...
Our cast of characters includes Michelle, a journalist from Alabama who is the first-mate and novice. She has been sailing since 2013, but she has never experienced this kind of blue water sailing. She is the narrator guiding you through the process as she continues to learn the finer art of sailing. Maik is an experienced sailor and our very seaworthy captain. A veteran of the German Navy, he has been sailing more than half his life with many solo sails on challenging waters in his logbook.

Our sailing vessel is SEEFALKE, a 43-foot, Dutch-designed ketch. With her steel construction and long keel, she was built for blue water journeys. Our crew includes our two Seadogs—Cap’n Jack Sparrow and Scout. Our beagles have been sailing since they were four months old.

Our YouTube videos and website blogs feature the amazing stories that make sailing spectacular. Michelle presents the Basics of Seamanship - How to Get Your Sea Legs. Maik delivers deeper, more technical content on How to Skipper a Boat from his weekly Navigation Corner. We share our travel destinations that on our first cross-Atlantic journey alone will cover at least 12 countries and at least eight major bodies of water. You can also get detailed insight by reading our online logbooks at www.sailorsandseadogs.com

We also have a passion for wildlife and especially sea life. We provide insight about the amazing creatures who share the sea with us. In addition, we will cover what it’s like to live onboard a sailboat with our two seadogs. You may even get some perspective from their point of view.

Preserving our oceans and the wildlife that shares their home with us is very important to Maik and Michelle. If you are not interested in supporting us here on Patreon, it would be awesome if you would instead make a contribution to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS)—an international non-profit wildlife organization dedicated to ending the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans.
