Dear Readers,

In July of 2014, I created a blog called Let’s Queer Things Up!. I didn't know, of course, that it would change my life. And I certainly didn't know it would change anyone else's, either.

As a transgender person that has struggled with their mental health, I had often felt alone in so much of what I was going through. I felt isolated and confused, pulled between two distinct communities where there seemed to be so little overlap.

But I knew, deep down, that I couldn't be the only person living this duality, being both queer and in recovery.

So I decided to open up about my experiences. I wanted to break the silence and stigma around mental illness, especially as it relates to LGBTQ+ people. And what I found was more extraordinary than I could have imagined.

I found a chorus of voices who adamantly believed that queer and transgender people have unique mental health needs — needs that were underestimated, underrepresented, and frequently disregarded.

By sharing my own story, we created a conversation, but more than that, we started a community. We emboldened other queer and transgender people to be their authentic selves. We built something amazing, simply by being vulnerable and being seen.

I continue to do my part in pushing the conversation forward, and supporting others, too, who are finding their voices. Not because I consider it a job, but rather, it's what I genuinely believe I was put on this earth to do.

If you've benefitted from the work that I've done and want to help me continue to do it, I'd love for you to join the Patreon community here.

Advertisers aren't so keen on the "crazy queer blog," so it's not a profitable platform (and it was never intended to be). But your donations here remind me that someone else — folks who are much more important and closer to my heart — believe that the work I do has value.

Whether it's a dollar or just sharing this link, it helps to know that this amazing, vulnerable, queer as hell blog that I poured my heart into is something that people care so much about.

So for that, I just want to thank you so much. I never in a million years imagined that my story could help other people heal, too, but knowing that it has gives me hope that the brighter future I imagined for us all might be possible after all.

With Love,
