If you're a fan of my work and you want to support me in the creation of new songs, film clips/music videos, painting, sculpting, costume designing, monster creating, and more random, arty THINGS, then here’s your chance!!!
I will endeavouring to create ART constantly, WITH YOUR HELP.

Part of my back story:
By becoming a patron of my arts, you'll be empowering me beyond what I am currently capable of. It'll be how I've always imagined the life of an artist could and should be. I’ve been dreaming of this kind of platform for ongoing support since I chose to be an artist (it’s not a choice, it’s who I am).
I’m quite sure my skills as an artist were securely embedded into my psyche as a child when I once drew a hot rod in First Grade primary school and all the kids gathered around me to watch. It was a defining moment hearing the oos and ahhs of the highly critical audience. When I finished that piece, I looked up from the page to discover 35 odd years had passed and I’d acquired other skills like:
- Good times metal band guitar & vox stylings (I AM DUCKEYE)
- Paint Rock Performances for Kids (Paint What You Hear/AFTERWHITE)
- Kid’s child-led musical mayhem (CHAOS AT PLAY)
- Disability Support band (SKULL FORK)
- Song writing (ME)
- Monster costume design
- Guitar Riffery
- Drum Bashery
- Photos of my daughter Isis & Aurora (Facebook for the Nanas)
- Silly animations (YouTube)
- Graphic design for I am Duckeye, Chaos at Play & Skull Fork
- Kid’s song writing (Chaos at Play)
- Painting pictures
- Drawing pictures
- Framing pictures
- Framing murders
- Not actually committing murders
- Saving a blind man from dark, icy waters (The Rescue)
- Being humble and not mentioning rescuing someone
- Writing long lists
- Completing long lists
Here's the Chaos at Play album BAG OF RATS
Through the recent advent of crowd funding sites such as Pozible, the band I'm part of, I am Duckeye has successfully generated enough funds to produce and tour albums throughout Australia. So I’m going to give it a whirl with my own self-styled idiocy/art and see who’s with me. I reckon this kind of subscription site is the way of the future for many starving artists and future creators.
I’m planning to release pretty much all of my ART on YouTube, Bandcamp, Instagram, Facebook, my future website with your help. I don’t need much to survive, but I’d like to make ends meet. I can only be the deadbeat stay-at-home dad slash disability support worker slash loving partner of a penguin researcher (Paula) for so long before she notices I’ve been into her chocolate stash.
I’d love to be able to do more of my ART, but I truly need support, true patronage, from YOU!!! You'll be helping save Paula's chocolate too.
This isn’t a one-off pledge of support for a reward, it is more of a long term commitment. You do get to road test it and if you're not backing my idiocy, or strapped for cash (you can pull out before you're charged at the end of any month - so it's risk-free).
The crowd funding via Pozible that I’ve done for I am Duckeye is a one-time all-in deal, this is more of an ongoing commitment to me and my music and art-making.
Another part of my backstory:
Like all independent artists, we may look amazing and appear affluent, but the reality is quite the opposite, regarding the money that is.
I’d love to be able to tell you that for all my adult life my yearly income matches that of the Australian Tax Office’s hypothethical Stephanie and her $300000 a year salary as an independent muso, but the reality is it'd take 15 years of my current pay to get even close to earn that.. Do the mathematics. Yep, that’s some real walking around money. Nor do I have hordes of followers on my social media to call upon to help out whenever I ask. Nor do I have years of international touring (I’ve done some though) and a plethora of promoters well aware of my idiocy to allow me to tour and sell merch to, again, barely scrape an existence.
What I do have is a genuine handful of close friends and family who understand who I am and sincerely support my artistic way of life. I’m now more inclined to look to YOU for support and nurture your extreme tolerance of my being a nong rather than eek out an existence in some dead end job that crushes my soul. If anyone deserves to crush my will to create, it’s YOU. When I say crush, I mean the complete opposite.
The problem with crowd funding is that, while it's great for huge projects, I feel repetitive and exhaust what little fan base Duckeye has with "HEY, WE’RE MAKING YET ANOTHER RECORD, PRE-ORDER HERE. AGAIN!... AND AGAIN. ... AND AGAIN"
I just need to be able to go into the studio, make music with friends, make a video, take a time off with family, write, record, and press SEND when I'm done, the way I can with photos of Isis on Facebook. No pressure other than my will to impress you with something creative and hopefully the Nanas are too busy copying the toddler photos for more nanas.
I don’t mind creating clever merchandise like hand-painted collaborative (Isis) artworks, fridge magnets and printed mugs but I’d like to be mindful of landfill and the future of the planet as best I can. I'm not going to give up on physical things or merchandise because nothing says you are proud of your music more than it landing on vinyl. I will just be aiming at producing albums, and they seem to be shared more readily via this internet thingy more than any physical medium.
I find it difficult being in the hold pattern of the crowd funding campaign period. Not knowing if the songs will actually see the light of day anytime soon because I’m trying to seem nonchalant with silly meme-like pictures reminding you to pledge when the whole time the band is biting nails and other body parts.
I have dreamt since Grade One of making ART and putting it out there.
AND GET PAID.
I’ve lost count of the amount of artists young and old I’ve clipped over the ears when they’ve been giving away there recordings or paintings for free and saying they don’t feel right about asking for money. They have a talent and skill just the same as any other profession.
I’m clearly not creating ART to make a fortune and buy an island in the pacific. I’d just like to be able to put food on the kids chalkboard table that is our dining table and pay rent. Hell, even buy and fix the taps rather than putting a bucket in the shower.
Just so we all know, THIS IS A COLLABORATIVE EXPERIMENT.
We can keep tweaking this as we go. I am completely open to suggestion if the patron levels seem too high or too low, aren't reasonably working. It’s totally up to us. You giving me feedback is not going to be a drama. If anybody comes up with an brilliant idea of what would be great to include, we can ADD it. This is a platform where we can be in constant communication.
Those of you who know me obviously know that I listen and communicate with you. Even if you're a one dollar backer, I want to know what you're digging about the platform and what's doing your head in.
Every patron, regardless of whether you're backing me for a dollar or ten dollars, thank you kindly. I really appreciate and won’t squander it on lollies at the corner shop. If you dig my biscuits, please SHARE them with others and help us all get amongst it!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
