The first is a burning old west town for the game environment challenge. This will be a full video game level. The second is a character built for TV and film. Third is a character that is to be built for use in a video game. And finally are three props, guns in this case, that will be suitable to show in film or TV.
These are big challenges, any one of which could easily take longer than two months to work on, but I am going to give each of them my best and learn as much as I can along the way.
Well, now you can!
I would like to invite you to come along for the creative experience as I write and build 3D models for video games. For the price of setting down to share a cup of black coffee once a month, you get to pull a chair up to the corner of my desk and see what I am going though as I work my way from concept to completed novel or model. You get to see the notes I have littered along my desk about what research I am getting up to, where I am going for answers, what I am thinking I will do with my novel or model, and so much more.
Free - Peek at the calendar posted to the door as you walk past
No need to be a supporter just to see what I am up to. Bookmark this page and come by whenever you like to see bits of what I have been up to and what I'll be working on next. Every day I will be posting a free update of what I have got done for the day, so please, stop by any time and take a peek at the agenda. This is intended to be much like a calendar of activity posted beside the door out in the hallway. You can see that things are happening, but you're not actually looking through the door.
$1 support tier - Buy me a cup of black coffee once a month
This is your chance to peek through the normally closed door into the office. Experience the chaos with me. All I ask is a single dollar of support, the equivalent of bringing along a cup of black coffee once a month in appreciation and support of my efforts.
This lets you sneak into the office and settle on the couch in the corner, watching me work. From there you get to see scenes that I have decided will become part of the finished novel I am working on and the models that I have worked on during the day. This is not to say that any scenes will definitely be in a story when it is sold as a finished novel, but these are the scenes I like enough that I want to keep them and make them better. You can read them over or look at the pictures of the models, comment on them, make suggestions about how they are written or constructed, and what I should consider changing about them.
You also get to browse the shelves of 3D models I have placed on display in my office and, if you desire, you can use some of them for your own (non-commercial) work. The models will be a bit eclectic and are almost always going to be based on some story I was working on at the time I made the model. You can even offer suggestions for what kinds of models you would like to see me work on next, but I can not guarantee I can accommodate all requests.
$5 support tier
Five dollars a month lets you mosey over to the desk area and take a closer look at what I am up to - in particular the rough drafts I write, and often discard, the things that never make it to 1st draft stage. Also the concept sketches for models I am working on. These are the stray thoughts that get written or drawn up, then fail to make it into consideration for inclusion in the story or modeling for one reason or another.
More than that, you get to discuss these rough scenes and sketches with me. While I may or may not act on any suggestions, there is a good possibility that your comments and suggestions might alter the course of the story or model at the rough draft stage.
$10 support tier - classy coffee or... are those Danish butter cream cookies?
Want to be able to point to a scene or model I am working on and ask for more conflict, more detail, more interaction between two characters you like, or a specific design? Want to make a case for why a certain character MUST be killed off, or should be saved even though I just wrote that they will die? If you are bringing not just black coffee but a cappuccino or a box of Danish butter cream cookies to the writing room, well, you have my attention! I will do my best to include any suggestions you make into the story or onto the model, just so long as those suggestions are not things that would break the story or model as a whole. And if I can not include it, well, you at least get to talk one on one with me via Dischord or some other messenger service about why I can not go that route and how we might come to a compromise that makes both of us happy.
$20 support tier
Want to reach over my shoulder and point to the screen and say "write / build this..."? Well, if you are at this support tier then that is what you will get once a month. I will write any scene you desire to see included in the story for your own personal copy, so your version of the story is exactly what you want it to be. More violence? Saucier romance scenes? Really want two of the characters to be romantically involved but they are not? Prefer if a model I am working on has a specific animation design or uses a different design from what it has? If you are helping me out this much, I will write for you the story you want written, design the model you prefer. (I reserve the right to include the scenes in the finished novel, or the models in my portfolio and models for sale. Also, I will not write about subjects that are morally or legally objectionable. I will listen to any requests, but reserve the right to decline to write about or model certain topics.)
And, that's all I can think of at the moment. If you have suggestions or requests for additional support tiers, please, let me know. I am going to be working on making this the best experience I can for all of us, so any feedback or suggestions are welcomed.
Now, about those goals...
I have a few goals that I would like to meet, and the most important of those is to make writing and modeling my full-time job. To be able to write and model full time, and pay all of my monthly expenses, I will need to earn around $1,200.00 a month at this. That is a pretty huge goal to me, but I think it is achievable. I do not expect for it to all come from Patreon, I will be working to follow other avenues that can help me earn a living as a writer and modeler, but that is my goal - $1,200 a month. So, if my Patrons here bring my income to that level, well... you will most definitely be getting my attention! The work done on the stories and models for this Patreon will be top priority at that time.
For now, however, I am going to be dedicating at least one hour a day, Monday through Friday, to working on things for this Patreon, plus at least one hour Saturday and Sunday to making models or other artistic things. As my Patreon support increases, so too will the amount of time I will spend on Patreon projects. So, the more support I get here, the more you all get out of it.
Another goal I have is to get a better computer. I am writing this on a 2008 home computer I purchased out of Wal-Mart years ago, and in which I have already had to replace the power box. The disk drive no longer works and it has a few other issues, but it still works enough to keep me going for a little while. Unfortunately, I can not run the latest versions of many of the programs I use in 3D, including the newer versions of Blender or Unity. Nor can I run any kind of video capture programs to be able to make videos. When I reach a point I can pay the bills, and have a little extra, a computer is the first thing I want to be able to buy. That will open up a whole range of possibilities I can not even consider at this time.
So, please, feel free to wander by whenever you can and take a peek at the calendar outside the door to see what I am up to, it's free! Or if you want to tuck $1 or more into the tip jar on your way into the room, come on in and join the fun of being one of my Patrons. You will get my heartfelt gratitude and much more!
