Sectarian Review

is creating Podcasts
Welcome the the Sectarian Review Podcast. My name is Danny Anderson and I want to thank you for checking us out.

The show started back in 2015, fueled by nothing but innocent enthusiasm and a dream. A dream that bringing interesting people together to talk about the world might make the world more interesting. And after well over 100 episodes, I'm pretty proud of what we've created.

Take a look at the show's website, for a glimpse of what we do. There you'll find all sorts of episodes about movies, music, religion, politics, and the life of the mind.

In addition, every now and then I get the chance to interview authors about their books, which has been really gratifying. Whether it’s John Warner discussing his book about a crisis in higher education, or Doug Cowan discussing his book about Stephen King and theology, I’ve had the honor of bringing some truly fascinating conversations to my listeners.

Here’s the pitch (i.e. what you get for your pledge).

By far the most satisfying part of this project is how it brings people together. Folks from all across the political, religious, and entertainment spectra come to the Sectarian Review for good faith conversations, forming a really wonderful community.

I want to do more of that. If I can get enough support here, I want to take this community of listeners and help them become active participants in what we do.

For the past year or so, I’ve released one episode per week. Going forward, I want to focus more on quality than quantity, so I pledge to my listeners that I’ll release 2 episodes/month, with bonus episodes at the Super-Fan level of support.

By joining me and pledging at one of our support levels, you’ll be entering a community of engaged, curious people, getting some cool rewards while helping the community grow. Here are your support options and what you’ll get:

  • $3/Month: Hero Level
As a Sectarian Review Hero, you’ll get “Behind the Scenes” access to the show. This means, you’ll have access to videos of the recording process for most* episodes of the show (*if a particular guest would rather not be recorded off air, I’ll have to exclude that episode). PLUS, get an exclusive invite to the Sectarian Review Private Facebook Group! There you can interact with all your favorite Sectarians!

  • $5/Month: Super-Fan Level
Super-Fans of the show will get all the benefits of the Hero-Level, PLUS a bonus episode of the show each month, available only to Super-Fans

  • $15/Month: Sectarian Level
Sectarians will get the chance to truly participate in a vibrant intellectual community. In addition to all the benefits of the Hero and Super-Fan levels, Sectarians will gain entry into an exclusive salon-style reading group.

Once a month, Sectarians will gather via Google Hangouts/Skype/Zoom (whatever works best) for an in-depth discussion about a book, film, tv series, comic - whatever the group decides on in advance. Each month, I will suggest a few options, then let Democracy do its work. As part of this group, Sectarians receive:

1. A detailed syllabus for each month’s readings to guide the reader through the work, with relevant references/links.
2. Discussion questions prepared in advance by me.
3. Access to exclusive “Explainer” videos that provide context for the work.
4. Access to an audio recording of each month’s discussion (in case you have to miss a meeting!). Consider it an EXTRA podcast (that you’re in!).

  • $50/Month: The Sectarian Writer’s Guild
This is for the listener with that creative itch. In addition to all the benefits of the other tiers, Guild members will have access to my experience and skills as a writing teacher. I’ve been teaching writing at the college level for 15 years and have multiple publications to my name. My day-to-day job is helping students improve their writing, and with a monthly pledge at this level, I will make my skills and experience available to you. Guild members will have the opportunity to receive detailed feedback on up to 3000 words of writing per month (that equates to about 12 pages of double-spaced prose!). Consider me your coach.

If you have that story to tell, that essay to write for class, or that analysis you must make of “x-ist/x-ism” in your favorite Netflix series, being a Guild member will help you get there!
