Hello,
My name is Sevda Khatamian. I'm from Iran, and have lived in Turkey for about eight years. I work on art. After a few years of hard (and annoying) work in agencies, and then living an unemployed life, and finally moving from one city to another, I decided to sell my stuff and be homeless. I am now traveling around, living in different countries as an artist in residence, hopefully to get to know other cultures and lands, observe as many lives as I can, and reflect my observations in my work. I am interested in things that are slightly twisted and bit out of the ordinary. I think detail is one of the main aspects to make an idea stand out, memorable and joyful to observe. I believe that things have spirits, too.

Currently, I am working on different projects. 'Lonely Places' is a series of postcards with a little piece of writing at the back that I create mostly for friends and family, and send them from everywhere I go. I draw corners and spots that somehow made feel peculiar, reminded me of a thing or a person, or dragged me into a distinct thought. They are, overall, portraits of lonely places. The first part of this project was exhibited in 'Haihatus International 5' in Joutsa, Finland.
'Lazy Letter' is a series of writings about my travels, the countries I visit, places I go and things I see. It's a combination of drawings and writings, which are some kind of letters written from "me" to "you". The first part of this series was exhibited in 'Haihatus International 6' in Joutsa, Finland. The rest of the letters will be posted on my blog a couple times a week.

I have other animation and film ideas that need to be scripted, and I gradually work on them during my free time in my studio.

I am now living a minimal life. I decided to keep the expectations low. Things never turn out the way I expect, so might as well put fewer thoughts on them. I'm planning to travel and create while I'm on the road. Moving makes my brain work creatively.

Why I'm here:
I take freelance jobs from time to time, but they're never consistent and so I can never really rely on it. I want to travel, learn more and create more, and I'm planning to live so for a while.
I'd want to create 15-20 postcards monthly from every country I visit, finish 'The Street' project (animation piece of my memoir project), and keep on working on my notes, scripts and upcoming projects.
My goal is to earn $600/month so that I could pay for my trips (flight tickets and visa fees can be very expensive sometimes), buy materials for my art, eat and basically survive. Any extra money, even a dollar a month is a huge help.

Thank you for stopping by and reading all this. And for your support. I appreciate it.

$0 of $600 per month
With enough support, I would be able to keep on with my journey and fully concentrate on my creative projects in the rented studios, whether it's photography, writing or drawing. I will also be able to upgrade my phone, and buy something that actually works. Having an smartphone makes traveling a lot easier.
