Seward Cafe Free Storeis creating A 100% Free Store for our neighbors and friends
About Seward Cafe Free Store
Allow us to reintroduce ourselves. We are a new collective at the Seward Cafe Free Space, formerly Seward Cafe, formed slowly over the Summer months in response to the crises of both the global pandemic and the Uprisings in Minneapolis following the murder of yet another Black person at the hands of MPD.
We are a diverse collective composed of majority people of color from the community, working together non-hierarchically to meet immediate and long-term community needs. Coming from a history saturated by primarily white ownership, this change has been pressingly necessary and overdue for a long time. Through the continuous reforming and reshaping of our collective, we have reoriented the Cafe Free Space which is now owned and operated by and for majority Black, brown, queer, and immigrant people targeted by the dominant white-supremacist society and culture that continues to inundate our Cities.
Our Free Store, in operation since the day the Uprisings began in May, has been a major catalyst for the bringing together of new communities and redistribution of resources as well as shifting our focus as a business and a collective. Over the summer, we’ve spent our time facilitating the Free Store: taking and distributing donations to a consistent group of mostly Somali and Oromo immigrant neighbors, Black and Brown neighbors, and financially targeted neighbors who live near the Seward Cafe.
Please consider signing up to be a regular donor to the Seward Cafe Free Store. Needs for food security are only going to increase as we move toward the Winter with no viable end in sight to this pandemic. As such we are inviting you to make a monthly donation to keep this work sustainable.
Any amount helps; from one dollar to five hundred. Community care is our future, and we'll get there one step at a time.
