What's Steve Gadlin's Star Makers?

Steve Gadlin's Star Makers is a 30-minute variety show featuring tomorrow's stars of Hollywood and/or Broadway. Hosted by stick figure cat drawing entrepreneur Steve Gadlin, the show gives the stage to people with a diverse range of talents, and an even more diverse level of experience. Rapsters rapping, rhythmic clapping, belly slapping, tapless tapping - we put it all before the cameras, judgement free.

Steve Gadlin's Star Makers is about celebrating individuals and their talents. Inspired by the 1980's cable access program Stairway to Stardom, it aims to knock aside the pedestal of celebrity and cheer on the rock star in each and every one of us.

We hope to produce one new episode of Steve Gadlin's Star Makers every month, beginning July, 2017.

History

The first season (13 episodes) of Steve Gadlin's Star Makers was filmed on old equipment at the cable access studio in Skokie, Illinois. It was distributed on YouTube, and a cable access station in Chicago. It also aired late nights on local Chicago station The U Too.

The second season (26 episodes) was produced in the studio at the Tribeca Flashpoint Academy. This season was the first to feature the 2-person studio audience, which was sponsored by PrintKCups.com. The show was self-syndicated to stations in Denver, Las Vegas, Sacramento, and other cities around the country. It can now be viewed on YouTube and Amazon Prime.

Our third season of Steve Gadlin's Star Makers will be produced at the brand new CAN-TV studios in Chicago. All new episodes will air locally in Chicago, and around the world on YouTube and Amazon Prime. Without any source of funding, we're turning to Patreon. We'd like to offer exclusive benefits and peeks behind the scenes to our friends and supporters. Let's make and break television together! Whoopy!

Why Patreon?

To fund our second season, we ran a Kickstarter project and courted sponsors. We took the show to local stations, national networks, and cable stations - and pitched, pitched, pitched. After the usual round of close calls and minor successes, we're back where we started. We're turning to the public access television model to get access to a studio, and will be handling distribution of our show on YouTube and Amazon Prime.

The positive? We have completely control over our show and its content, and can make the show that moves us. The negative? We do so on a volunteer basis.

I have an awesome team of producers, editors, camera operators, and set technicians who have put so many hours of their lives into this project. Not to mention all of the talented acts who've traveled from all over the place to perform in our studio. I'm hoping that with a bit of funding, I can compensate all of these awesome people for their time and effort with a little dough. Patreon seems like the most fair and democratic way to do that.

We don't make this show for money. If we break even on production costs, that'd be a huge win. And if I could put a few bucks into the pockets of the volunteers that make this show happen, that'd be freakin' glorious.

If you enjoy the show, I hope you'll join us as a patron.
Know that your support goes directly to the awesome volunteers who make this show something special.
